Interesting upgrade process...

Well, that was fun.....now that it's over...

Sharing in case it would be helpful to others, though the configuration might not be very common....

The actual upgrade to my NDX went smoothly, once I got the upgrader to see the port.  I'm a Mac user (MacBook Pro) and have one of the older NDX with an RS232.  It's always worked easily before (using a USB/RS232 converter lead with Prolific chip set)  - indeed I've upgraded with this actual laptop two or three times before.  This time though, the upgrader refused to show the serial port despite system report showing the port/driver and every thing as okay.

So I re-installed the prolific drivers (install seemed to work) and tried again.  Still no port to select in the upgrader.

So this time I read everything it said on the Prolific website (in my defence I had to scroll down a bit...) and sure enough, the problem was my recent upgrade to El Capitan and the increasing lockdown of core parts of OSX (system integrity protection)

Anyway, following all the instructions this time, and after a reboot into recovery mode, some small excursion into command line, and a reboot back to normal running, the usbserial port appeared in the upgrader and the  actual NDX upgrade was smooth as usual.

Now happily listening to Tidal...  Very nice indeed...

I've always wondered if I should switch to a Mac because they are so easy to set up and use.

Absolutely, but you're only ever supposed to use it to do what Apple expects you to use it for!

Isn't that the truth...

Macs work for me because I still think of myself as a UNIX developer (only stopped because they'd pay me more to shout at people doing the work) and OSX lets you pretend it's really UNIX underneath.  But that is getting eroded away a little quickly...

Even if the configuration is unusual, I think it is very helpful of you to share this experience with the community.  Thank you.

Here's another.

I've performed some updates before, using my Asus tablet with dock. Worked like a dream. This time however, the update process stopped during the transfer of code. First time at 3%, retried, then at 44%, again, at 55%, 68% and finally 100%. Then nothing. Every time I had to start over again. Which only worked after I disconnected the cable, and started from the beginning. All the time the NDX told me that the update was being installed..

Anyway, I switched to another device, a Lenovo laptop. Win7 Enterprise instead of W10. Laptop instead of tablet with keyboard dock. Same USB cable btw. Update sailed through in no time.

Don't know what caused the issue, maybe W10? Maybe USB port issues? No idea. But if anyone has issues, try also another device. It might help.
