NAP300 / 300PS DR upgrade

Posted by: Chris Dolan on 10 October 2015

I read earlier today that the upgrade to latest DR specification for the NAP300 / 300PS has been confirmed at £1495 inc VAT but have not yet seen or found  anything further on this.

Have I missed an announcement on price and when the upgrade will be available?

Thanks

Chris

I understand the price you mention is correct and that the upgrade is available from January.

I can see you both have 300/super 20s - i bought a new 300dr to power my s20s and am ever so deeply happy with the musicality and gelling of that combo. More to look forward to...

elkman70 - thank you. I was expecting to see more than I have. The DR upgrades for the preamps were announced with more detail and price options t oinclude servicing if I recall correctly. Perhaps that will follow?

LarsDK - Yes I hope so. I love the 300 / Super20 combination

I will be interested to see what the upgrade for the NAP500 will cost, I hope it's close to the costs of the upgrade for the 300.

Hi Bert,

UK prices have been released. £3,500 for DR update on the head unit only and £4,200 with a service.

John.

Chris/ Lars,

I have just just put in an order for a 300dr to replace my 300 and to go with my S20s.

I hope the improvement will be good.

Regards,

Nick

Is there not a reduced price for owners who have bought 300s more recently? I thought that happened for the power supplies or was just that they had priority?

Good for you Nick! I am sure it will be more than worth it :-)

John.

Thanks - that gives some kind of reference - while the euro price is normally a bit more expensive. But looks like kind of reasonable.

Congratulations Nick - I was thinking about doing the same - or possibly a pre-owned NAP500, but the 300/Super20 is so good that I would be reluctant to chnage even for a 500

I saw it on an eBay link from a dealer but the 300 price was the only information immediately available there

That's interesting - I have not had any dierct dealer communication (that I recall) and could only find one snippet on the dealer websites that I usual stalk.

I assume that your email confirmed the figures mentioned above or you would have commented.

Thanks guys

I think the difference has been much reported on the forum but having lived with the previous 300 for 6 years I can confirm that my new 300DR is a substantial improvement across the board. The old 300 was and is a formidable amp in it's own right but the DR drives everything to a different level. I was contemplating a 500 for a while but with an improvement this good I'm more than pleased to stay where I am - at least for a few years! I'm listening to considerably more music and that probably says more than jaw dropping, noise floor, inky blackness, in-room experiences

and foot tapping - at least in my book!

So, does the 300DR make the 300 sound broken?

No no HH, the 300 DR makes the 500 sound broken!  ATB Peter

Thanks gents. I'll look forward to mine arriving in a few weeks then.

Ive taken a bit of a leap of faith as I've ordered one to replace my current NAP 300 without demo as my dealer didn't have one available.

I did hear what the DR has done to the 250 and made my decision based on that.

All three of them ?

Is there a 500DR in the pipe line?

For me?  No.  Don't have the funds for 3x500 and don't really have the space either.  Quite likely I will upgrade to 300DR though.

I'm definitely curious to hear the DR-ed version, based on my experience with a NAP 250 DR in a variety of environments...many of the virtues of the NAP 300/PS combo I now find, in spades, in the 250 DR, so one can only imagine that it's even better still. I have not yet heard a NAP 500/PS DR, either....

Listened to a 250-2 driving the Focal Sopra 1 to the Signals show.

yep, remember that sound but not for me.

Then the 250DR. My, that's a whole lot more musical.

Then the 300DR.

Uh oh. Effortlessly authoritative & musical. Listener starts twitching nervously in seat and the perspiration of fear starts. I don't want a new amp, the 135s are just serviced and sounding brilliant.

And the money's spent on the new turntable.

No. No.

Oh, Lord, I might just HAVE to find a way of getting a 300DR.

Nervous, twitching listener exits stage left.

Yes, the 300DR was that good.

You have been warned, FT
