NAP300 / 300PS DR upgrade

Posted by: Chris Dolan on 10 October 2015

I read earlier today that the upgrade to latest DR specification for the NAP300 / 300PS has been confirmed at £1495 inc VAT but have not yet seen or found  anything further on this.

Have I missed an announcement on price and when the upgrade will be available?

Thanks

Chris

Maybe there is a way to have the 135s treated to the DR upgrade. Certainly in the days I had both 135s and a very early 300 running side by side, the 300 was NOT better than the 135s in all ways. Methinks a DR pair of 135s may give a 300DR a lot to worry about.

Thanks Ron for the therapy and the moral support.

I have auditioned a 300 but preferred my old 135s. This almost certainly places me in a small minority but I'm fine with that and the bank manager is delighted.

However, the 300DR is a whole lot better, to these ears at least.

The very idea of a 135DR is delicious, though mercifully a little unlikely.

Besides, the ARTs are an easy load to drive, he keeps saying...

Sounds to me that Ron may have some good ideas !

If Naim makes The DR available ? CB and Olive users would certainly jump on imo.

I don't know if review links are allowed on the forum to other sites.

On the audiobeat site in their blog section Roy Gregory writes a nice piece on the 300 Dr compared to a normal 300.He really liked it.

Also worth looking at is a future Statement review with Wilson Sasha 2' s called Unlikely Bedfellows.Nice pics.I think he was useing the the Nordost Odin interconnect with it.Which make SL cable look good value for money.

He certainly did like it.

Having thought about it some more I'm going to put my 300 in for a DR upgrade as soon as I can and then think about Karmen and cables.

yep, remember that sound but not for me.

Then the 250DR. My, that's a whole lot more musical.

Then the 300DR.

Uh oh. Effortlessly authoritative & musical. Listener starts twitching nervously in seat and the perspiration of fear starts. I don't want a new amp, the 135s are just serviced and sounding brilliant.

And the money's spent on the new turntable.

No. No.

Oh, Lord, I might just HAVE to find a way of getting a 300DR.

Nervous, twitching listener exits stage left.

Yes, the 300DR was that good.

You have been warned, FT

i'm also in a minority that prefers 135s over 300 but also can understand why people buy 250/300 instead of 135s. I wouldn't worry too much about this DR thing, based on my experience with DR preamps power supplies, there still will be two camps. Ones that love more precise, lets call that audiophile DR Naim, and the rest preferring old, brutal, boogie Naim...

PS i have just converted a chassis of my olive135 to chrome bumper look and the result is jaw dropping with green back-lit logo surrounded by chrome chassis. :-D

I've heard through the grapevine that the 500DR has been signed off for production and should be available next month. A nice Xmas present for someone.

Yes indeed, somehow can't think of who?!  ATB Peter ( cannot think of what you'll be buying Jan to kiss and make up, there's always a bit of bling in a small case, KECHING)

Or, in my circumstances, a bloody big item of bling in a bloody big case!

New, chaps.  It's so over-rated.

Come back to the wonderful world of olive or chrome and all your sins will be forgiven.

Christmas pressies will be more affordable too

Enjoy your new 500DR amps when they arrive. Given how the 300DR sounds, the 500 DR will probably be quite good!

Foot tapper, are you going to get that 300 DR that had you breaking into a blissful stress

Not that I have heard a 500DR but the price of the upgrade + service seems very reasonable compared to  new or even a trade in and new 500DR.

Do not worry, I am staying put like yourselves ( joking apart). With the added minor cost of the service I am going to be a good boy and wait a couple of years. My 500 is a 2011 and the system is actually sounding rather delightful as is. You may ofcourse both disagree here!  ATB Peter

Yes Peter, very sensible, I agree - let's just stick with what we've got, It all sounds great.

Only...what's common sense got to do with any decisions us hi-fi folk make?

The NAP500 might sound great but it's not exactly svelte and gorgeous like the NAP300 is it?
