SWMBO

Posted by: velofellow on 11 October 2015

I have spent much of the last two weeks on the settee with the cats watching the Rugby World Cup. Ten minutes ago Namibia scored an excellent try against Argentina and I said to my beloved "Watch this". She duly watched as she has done on numerous occasions in the recent past and said "What is this sport?"

A woman of impeccable taste.

What's that? Is it like the football World Cup?

EDIT: just spotted the thread further down. Looks pretty dull. Although a match timetable might be helpful in calculating the best times to go out. Works for the football. Good shopping and parking.

I am told rugby is a game played by fat men with odd shaped balls.

What is a SWMBO? Another DAC? Will it have better sound quality than a MOJO, HUGO or DAVE?

SWAMBO = it's the all in one box concept or in other words your master of your universe

SWMBO = a non-electrical volume control (usually quieter only) and an assertive management system for hifi investments.

Love her!

My SWMBO has just discovered the new Fender sandblasted Telecaster I snuck (sp?) into the house a few weeks ago.  Suppose I'll be in the doghouse for a day or so.  (I'm totally unrepentant, BTW)

In view of a current shortage of brownie points and in the interest of the domestic peace, I've fully updated management on a potential switch of speakers in the very near future. Normally I just do it and face the consequences so this is a first. I'm keeping the best for last though (the investment proposal).

Yes, am now at the point where I ask for forgiveness rather that permission.

Are you guys men or mice? I inform my wife of my hifi purchases, often after the fact. She's normally very accommodating. I'm the same with her buying the odd piece of clothing. Quid pro quo. See?

Squeak!

B-a-a-a-a....

I usually keep broaching the topic until she gives in, but this was limited edition run, so went the forgiveness rather than permission route this time.  Great sounding Tele.  Just need to get my James Burton impression into gear!

It was three weeks after the replacement of B&W 804s with 803s that my daughter visited and said to her mum (SWMBO) "They're different speakers in the lounge, mum !"

My daughter is now banned from the lounge on her visits

(The change from 803s to 802s a year ago has so far gone unnoticed)

You clearly haven't met my wife.

That's what so great about the Naim Classic range - all the boxes look the same. I'm sure some of you have sneaked in the odd swap without being noticed. Me, I would never do that!

She caught me surfing hifi porn the other night. Magics speakers. The blue look lovely! What's not to like!

I saw a sandblasted Stratocaster the other day. Interesting finish, and I can see the appeal, but definitely not to my taste. I played a really nice 60s cherry finish ES-335 in the music store the other day, but unexpected plumbing problems ($$) at the house later that day have nixxed my plans for now.

Boy winky - ain't that the way?  I had some plans for some "discretionary" funds and home repair issues both here and at my rental property have put those to rest for the foreseeable future...

It's a damned shame...you try to bring 'em up right and in the end this is what you get...

Of course you can always try the "it was a cost neutral swap" canard...

Could have been worse. I could have had my eye on this one.....

That's not a trivial change. I think your wife may be a) humouring you; or b) avoiding conflict. Unless the new speakers are at your girlfriend's place, in which case, may they long go un-noticed.

Yeah, but if you cold have afforded that one, your plumbing issues would not have proved so daunting - lol!

Thanks for sharing that.
