Ovator S400?

Posted by: kaydee6 on 14 October 2015

I am looking to move from harbeth shl 5 to Ovator S400. The S400 is to be driven by a Supernait 2.

My only concern is the room is a 4.5m wide by 6m long. The s400 will be 1m from the rear wall, 0.5m from side walls and 1.4m from each other.

Is 1.4m from each other too close to for the S400? Any practical experience from the friends here?

Hi kaydee6, your room seems quite large so why would the speakers be so close?

How do you arrange the S400 to be 1.4m apart from each other and 0.5m away from the side walls in a 4.5m by 6m room? If you have them along the shortest side and 0.5m away from the side walls, I would expect about 3m between them. I have the S400 in a similar room, about 3m from each other, 0.7m from the side walls and 0.3m from the rear wall and they sound great. Best, nbpf

Sorry, I think I was too generous with my room size.

It should be 3m wide by 6m long. This ends up to about 1.4m between the speakers. Is this too small?

Might be easier to help you out if you can post a diagram or photograph of your room layout and current speaker location...

Surely your Harbeths are in the same position. Do they work ok?

Here are the pictures of the room with the Harbeth SHL5.

I believe Ovator S400 width is the same as the SHL 5.

Around 33cm.

Why are you changing, the move seems to be a side-grade at the very best? Also try positioning your speakers using the Cardas system, you seem to have the room, google it

With such a wall size ratio of 1:2 I' d try them on the longest wall.

That would have been my next suggestion, I have a slightly narrower and considerably longer listening room so needed to tackle the room acoustics. I have a feeling a speaker with a smaller volume might be better given that intrusive wall unit near the left speaker.

I'm more of a "glass half-stolen, half poisoned" guy

The soft toy helps with the sound treatment

In and of themselves they are rather innocuous.  But the juxtaposition is disturbing.
