Attention: Urika owners
Posted by: Iron Cobra on 16 October 2015
Today I did the SL RCA/DIN test on a Urika. The result was quite surprising, suffice to say David at Sound Org and I were amazed how good it is. This was the first time he has done this dem (never been asked before) and now has a list of Urika owners to contact.
I left the shop having placed an order.
If you own a Urika, I reccomend you do the dem.
Hi Iron Cobra,
I believe it as i have heard it on a non SL IC.
What did you think of the SL IC as I know you were not too impressed with the SL XLR IC?
I was looking forward to a SL 5-4 pin DIN home loan for my Superline but David told me today that such a SL IC is not currently available from Naim.
All the best,
Richrad
Unfortunately, the Linn Silvers that are supplied with the Urika are a bit boring. A few of us have switched out this connection with Chord Sarum STA and now Super Sarum with amazing results. I'm not surprised that the Naim SL has given you a similar " A-Ha ! " moment- enjoy.

Richard,
Very impressed with the RCA/DIN on the urika, as I mentioned I have ordered one. XLR/DIN on the 300 were a disappointment after the speaker cable. It was not one of those must have's as with the IC and speaker cables. Might be worth another listen in the future, 300DR upgrade first!!
Had a listen to the new B&W 805D3 as well, very revealing speaker
Have you ordered your speaker cables yet? I understand you was very impressed or 500DR? Exciting times.
Maybe see you again sometime in York
Kevin
It's something I'm considering to reduce the box count. I have a SL RCA-Din cable and may swap out my Superline/SupercapDR for the Urika and SL I/C, subject to a demo of course.
Urika for superline, did that
Not for three out of four of us when we did a bake off between the two (two Superline and two Urika owners). There wasn't much in it but the Superline had more a visceral engaging sound.

…… on one track - maybe ![]()
I did say three out of four Chris. ![]()
So, the Urika is mounted inside the LP12... how do you replace the Linn silvers with Superlumia?
(Please forgive ignorance of such Linn things)
rj,
The Urika has RCA output jacks. Yes, you do have to remove the Trampoline base to gain access, but a pretty straightforward swap.

Thanks Mark.
I plan to turn my attention back to my turntable soon - and Chord Sarum Super ARAY v SL RCA/DIN comparison is under contemplation ![]()

Yes, but always terminate to a din when using Naim amplification
It took about 20 minutes to do the swap. RCA connected to the urika DIN to the amp. The SL is thinner than 2 silvers and easier to mount on the trampoline. The block at the RCA end fits nicely on the base without any problems. Sounds amazing.
Superline/Urika mybe not much in it, I preferred the urika and a lot cheaper if supercar required

Which I think is good - no group think
- and it's about preference and choice - not right or wrong.

Personally I think it is the SupercapDR that makes the Superline really sing - but at a cost.
Yes - and if can't then you can use a phono to DIN adapter ![]()
Another Linn Silvers to SL Urika RCA to DIN cable swapee (is that a word?) here.
Oh yeah. It surely works boys and girls; particularly in the context of a full set of SL cabling. The window is opened further, and there is (logically) a gorgeous sonic synergy.
John.
swapee (is that a word?)
Don't think so John - swapper would work though.
Did you try Sarum Super ARAY as well?

Hi Chris,
My initial experience with a Chord STA interconnect (twixt 555 and 552) was not a positive one so I went down the Super Lumina road which works really well for me. As ever; it's just a matter of personal taste and equipment matching. Both types of superior cabling seem to work very well as a 'set'.
John.
I wasn't convinced by the STA on my silver beermat spinner to preamp but loved it on Urika - and much prefer the Super ARAY to STA on the DIN/XLRs.
Not yet tried Super Lumina anywhere
Oh well I suppose that I need to find out soon
Considering it...... but it's so much money for a cable
I guess the question i have is - if you were buying a £1800 box for the same effect, would you still consider it worthwhile?
It is a lot of money-agreed. The way I see it, these cables are icing on the cake- after you have found your resting spot with boxes.Imo, none of these cable exchanges has given me the effect of a box upgrade, although the Sarum Urika lead was very significant

Thanks for that interesting viewpoint Mark!
I guess the only thing i can see myself doing from here is changing my 252 for a 552, maybe it's a year or two off...... but i get the impression that the Silvers+DIN convertor is slightly 'suboptimal' in the context of what i am running these days.
I've already learnt (after a week or two of swearing) that cheap interconnects can get exposed with box upgrades but i'd like to think i could lay out for a decent IC and expect it to still work with a upgraded pre, or at least take on the risk of crossgrading later?
A dealer has touted the Super Lumina partly because the cable dressing works better in the Urika.
I've read lots of positive experiences with the TA......
Will have to try and get a demo i think......
The IC has been installed today
. I would say the SL cables are easily the equivalent of a box upgrade and I have had a few.
I am where I want to be with boxes so the cables are the icing on a very nice cake. Just waiting for the 300DR now
