Chord Silent Mounts = Wow!

I was gifted some Chord Silent Mounts SM7's, and I am blown away! I have just made oak-MDF-Pyrotek Wavebar bases for each speaker, the Wavebar is a Mass Loaded Vinyl which is a commercial product designed for sound deadening, kinda like the stuff they put in acoustic panels. The bases improved the sound very well, I then put the Silent Mounts under each speaker spike and the improvement is massive. The bass has tightened up very much, and the soundstage and depth has improved beyond what I thought imaginable. The sound has a 3D effect and because the bass is so tight, I now hear music which was veiled under some of the bass exposing information I didn't know was there. I am blown away by how much influence minor vibrations have on sound. I had previously reported how my hifi room has been really well treated, which took a lot of work, but this is the icing on the cake. Having spent a lot of money on cash on cables I know how it's hard to be objective when evaluating them, but since these things were a gift I was more at ease. I can confidently recommend them to all, as a great enhancement. By the way, the Wavebar is a product which I have used in my room, liberally and strategically, which resulted in reducing my room's modes from 25dB peaks to a flat (+/-6dB) response 1/24th smoothing. It is available in the UK, the company make serious acoustic product for industry, which I hazard a guess is then used by residential acoustic makers. All the Best.

On listening through the LP12 it sounded as though I had downgraded the cartridge. On the KDS the musical flow evaporated.

SWMBO was listening throughout  and was equally as forthright in her views.

Glad they work for you.  Advice for everyone else as ever -  try before you buy and listen with an open mind and more than just soundbites of music.

Best £700 I never spent.

Treading close to moderation in answering this and to provide some perspective on RR's post.... I hope Richard will allow....:

It's an interesting one guys... But of all the home trials clients have made so far, I've only had two negatives. RR and Mick who doesn't post here. Both use the C30 loudspeaker which we know to be very specific in it's requirements to make it sing! Maybe their addition just upset the balance that RR and Mick have worked so hard to achieve and they just didn't get on with them...............

Anyway, the best advice for anyone reading/considering here, is to try them on your own system as your retailer can easily lend them out to you.

I can concur with above and as usual a home demo is a MUST. My Fact 12s sounded muddled with the Silent Mounts this on a solid wooden floor straight on concrete with no wobbles. ATB Peter

My ever-helpful dealer, Signals, kindly lent me two sets of the 70mm versions to try under my active DBLs. I gave them a good listen this morning but they really didn't work well; the sound was smoother but somewhat lost its boogie and dynamics. Back to my upside-down Naim Chips. Floor's oak boards resting on a compressed mud and flint base. They might be better on carpet.

As usual, try in your own system...

I remember seeing the Silent Mount speaker chips when I was in Japan. I think they are imported from Japan. If you do an on-line search for Andante Largo and Silent Mount, you should end up in the right place. Anyway, I have looked up the manufacturers info (it is in Japanese), and translated, it says that the Silent Mount speaker chips (SM-7A) work well on wooden flooring, on carpet with wooden flooring underneath, and on tatami mats but they are not recommended for use on concrete or stone or on carpet with concrete underneath.

It could be that some of the different experiences people are reporting here when using these chips is related to this.
