Reasonable to be grumpy or not?
I don't want to do it myself in case I cock it up and my local Naim dealer doesn't know one end of a streamer from another...
Not publicly, unless you've exhausted every other avenue of communication privately, IMO. No company wants an unhappy customer. Nor do they want their dirty washing held out in public.

So you would have preferred to wait another 2 weeks until the update was ready to be installed before you get your Uniti back? I can hear the...
Updating is really easy if you follow the instructions. I have done it three times without any problems and so have many others. And if you don't dare, go to your local dealer and he will do it for you
You shouldn't feel grumpy because the fact is that Naim released it for everyone to use at the same time as they released it to the factory, ie just as soon as it was ready. Prior to that they were still testing and checking/fixing issues raised by the beta testers. So when your unit was being serviced, the firmware you have installed was the current firmware.
The upgrade isn't too difficult but I expect your dealer would do it for you if you ask. It only takes about ten minutes. If you follow the instructions in the download, you can do it yourself!

I tend to agree. The update process is really simple. I had my Qute and Lite done in next to no time and if I were you,I'd find another dealer as there should be no excuses there. You should try burning update discs for an HDX if you want a challenge. As per usual, read the instructions and you won't have a problem. Naim's customer service department is exemplarary so there's no need to worry. I can't think of ant Far Eastern outfits who will give you a reply out of hours or over a weekend either!
The thing to hold on to is that you can't actually damage your unit. If your attempt to update the firmware fails and you can't sort it then the forum members will help you sort out what happened and how to fix it, or any proper Naim dealer could or Naim themselves.
The instructions contained within the update are very detailed. If you download the update to your PC or Mac, you can read the instructions, print them off and get your mind round them before you do anything. So I suggest you do that and if there is anything you don't understand or doesn't seem clear enough, just ask us in the forum.

Yes....except there is no need to be brave with firmware updating Naim streamers..
Reasonable to be grumpy or not?
Some spend fortunes in cartridges......
Is corporate PR always this easy? :-)

A career change Chris..?
:-)))))

No. You need lots of satisfied customers who feel part of your community and want to contribute to it. I think that is quite hard to achieve actually. It doesn't happen on its own.

DUDE! you're well outta-sync with the 21st century... All you need do is plug a USB cable into it from a laptop. Download the 4.4 updater and click away! its something my 10 year old could do without any instruction.
Don't be a technophobe, get with the program (pun intended) man

However, this forum is a good place for customers to vent frustration and get advice and perhaps some sympathy and humor about it.
Social Media allows both sides to win, as a customer can vent directly and get help...no company in 2015 wants to hide frustrated or unhappy customers (nor can they).
The win for both sides comes when the customer leaves with a solution, and the company is shown to care and resolve the issue. Following this thread it seems it was worked out just like intended.
Another +1 to Naim forums.
Yes it is unreasonable to expect Naim to update software prior to the release date. But it is not unreasonable to have anxieties about upgrading firmware yourself if you are inexperienced in digital hifi or indeed technology in general.
It doesn't necessarily help either to keep saying how easy it is. Naim should ensure their network of dealers are sufficienly well trained to perform upgrades for those not confident enough to carry this out for themselves. If your dealer can't (or worse won't) do this for you then time to find another Naim dealer.
I am quite capable of performing updates myself but I feel for those who are anxious about it.
Grumpy, of Chesham
On behalf of the anxious (as we all were at one time)!
