Tonearm cable for naim system ???

Posted by: marcobb on 19 October 2015

Hi Folks,

I am using the project turntable, ortofon 2M Black and 5pin to rca tonearm cable come from turntable set

Do you have any tonearm cable can advise to me ? How about Naim Aro tonearm cable ?

My phono stage is Stageline-N.

Cheers,

marcobb

Marco,

The Aro cable wouldn't fit - it only fits the Naim Aro.

What is worthwhile is having 50 ohm BNC connectors fitted to whatever cable you use, and of course BNC sockets on the Stageline (an option when new but can be retrofitted by a Naim's service dept.). These are much better connectors than RCA phonos for dealing with such tiny signals.

Hi Richard,

I got my dealer advise use the Aro tonearm cable [5pin to RCA version] for my vinyl system with naim system, they said it will present more naim sound.

If I pass my Stageline-N back to modify the RCA to BNC connect and order the 5pin to BNC Aro tonearm cable, how about this? Is it OK ?

Hi Marcobb,

Apologies.  I wasn't aware that Naim have such a cable available.  But that's great news if they can supply such a thing.  Is the tonearm DIN connector the SME type?  Yes, the Aro cable comes with BNCs anyway.

Marcobb, it's the little right angled DIN connector that fits into the bottom of certain tonearms - one the nicest is made by SME.  Naim used to fit the SME connector as an option on Prefix phono stages that would be connected to SME or Linn tonearms.
