Aerial for DAB & FM with N272

Posted by: Steve GTX on 30 October 2015

What do you guys (& girls) advise with regard to an aerial, to supply a good signal to the N272, for DAB & FM Radio? (I have the module)

Can I take a feed from my TV aerial or do I need something else?

Advice always appreciated.

I find Persil gives a cleaner signal than Ariel any day personally!

I'm always reminded of the sketch Jasper Carrot did about a new washing powder.  It was called the Best, Universal, Grit, Grime and Effluent Remover or BUGGER for short!

Depends where you live in respect to a local transmitter but location aside the TV aerial won't really give you a good signal. A dedicated chimney mounted aerial is best with a run of good quality cable down to your 272. Worth speaking to your dealer to recommend an installer. Have a quick search on the forum as this topic comes up quite regularly

I just put a splitter on my TV aerial and ran it from that. The results are surprisingly good for a solution that costs virtually nothing. I don't listen to enough music on FM to justify a rooftop aerial, but if you do that would obviously be better. As for DAB, I don't see the point. SQ is poor, and the stations are available on iRadio so I just use that instead.

If (IF) you are in strong / medium signal strength area then a vertically mounted FM single dipole will work with both FM & do a pretty good job on DAB.     A traditionally mounted horizontal FM multi element is next to useless on DAB.

If you're not in a good signal area then best discuss with a local installer & it might be a case of make yer mind up time with either FM or DAB

A good quality five element roof aerial, with a run of good wire direct to the back of the 272 will give a good signal unless you live in a tricky area for FM. As for the DAB, it's best to just turn that input off via the menu.
