What is the "actual" bitrate?

Posted by: BigH47 on 30 October 2015

This may be another dumb Howard question, but how can one see what actual bit rate/depth is being played?

In my set up MacMini-2Qute-52 after setting up iTunes in AudioMidi to say 192 K 32bit 2Qute shows the blue light for 192k all the time regardless of what level of music is being played.

So is there a way am I able to see the actual bitrate/depth as music is playing?

Hi Howard,

Are you still using Audirvana? If so that should bypass the Audio Midi settings of iTunes and the light colour on the 2Qute will indicate the bitrate. I have the iTunes Audio Midi setting at 16/44k, but it's academic really as I use the Audirvana. For hi res files I come out of iTunes Integrated Mode and drag the files into the Playlist box.

No Steve I haven't tried Audirvana yet, I was waiting until winter, something to do on the dark days.

We will have to have another chat soon.

Install bit perfect, they have updated recently to address a few of the issues it had, but basically it will switch audio output on the fly depending on the file type.

I did briefly try V3 of Bitperfect, but couldn't get any output. I will try it again later.
