QNAP nas won't re scan

Posted by: JohnL on 31 October 2015

hi all, I'm trying to get my qnap 212 to rescan after getting a message telling me the raid copy was not clean between the two hard drives. I'm now getting the message "re scan failed unable to unmount disc". Does anyone know what the issue is here ?. Sorry am not good with computers and find the qnap forum indecipherable unless you have the IT skills of Simon in Suffolk (that's a complement by the way Simon !!)

I would try shutting it down and restarting and then doing the rescan. I've had similar in the past and that seems to work for me. The rescan crops up, in my case, where the power has cut out unexpectedly.

this is a good tip, you can also over the control try to restart the server (meaning restarting the software).

JohnL, me too, imagine if you had to go through all this with a car or a cooker

Hi all, tried rescan folder contents but raid mirror check still shows "operation failed cannot unmount disk". Bert, will restarting the software put my files at risk ? I don't currently have them backed up on an external hard drive or any such. Thanks all, any help appreciated. John

Sorry can't help further (I know that wasn't helpful). I would say, do a backup, just in case something untoward happens.....which reminds me.......

Thanks PG, I think an external harddrive at the weekend and then take it from there. Thanks for your time John
