I hate Christmas Albums

I generally hate these albums and as we are getting closer. What's your favorite and worst Christmas Album, I have started with a picture of a new album.....

Given some of the Scrooge-ish comments above (and the others doubtless yet to come), I should mention It's Cliched to be Cynical at Christmas by Half Man Half Biscuit. "See how we yawn at your bile and your scorn" etc.

In answer to the OP, I haven't got a worst Christmas album but my best would have to be one of:

Come Darkness, Come Light by Mary Chapin Carpenter

Christmas Cocktails from the Ultra Lounge Collection (volume 1, 2 or 3!)

Any Nine Lessons and Carols by the choir of King's Cambridge (preferably live on Christmas Eve)

I met and worked with a guy who was a Mantovani's fan.

Have you ever tried Mantovani's  stuff during Christmas eve while sober?

Don't like them full stop.

Kate Rusby has done a couple of good Christmas albums: 'Sweet Bells' and 'While Mortals Sleep'.
Also good is 'Joy' by Tracey Thorn (ex Everything But The Girl).
Difficult to beat the Phil Spector album, but in similar vein there's always the Beach Boys Christmas Album.

What am I saying? It's only November!!!

Arrived in the post yesterday: The Three Wise Men, a 3CD box set of

  • An Oscar Peterson Christmas,
  • Christmas with the George Shearing Quartet and
  • A Dave Brubeck Christmas

Only listened to the Oscar P so far, but it's really good: tasteful playing and very Christmassy. Complete bargain as well.

My wife insists that we have to play Xmas songs whilst we put the Xmas tree and decorations up so I have just endured two hours of Boney M and co.  I don't like any of them with the possible exception of Greg Lake.  My favourite Xmas album is Moving Pictures by Rush

Dan Hicks's recent "Crazy For Christmas" is brilliant. It's good even by Dan Hicks standards, which makes it very good indeed.

Never heard this one, but this might be indeed the exception to the hate rule.....

Can't see the album art, so what is it ?

Sorry you can't see it Bert.

It's Keith Emerson's 'The Christmas Album'.

The Richie Cole rendition of Sleigh Ride is worth this entire album:

And as jazz improvisations of Christmas tunes go, the rest are pretty good - more of a post bop approach as opposed to the "smooth jazz" genre.
