Probably going to get that as well. Do you have a CD rip or other format to compare the DSD with?

I too picked up Thriller DSD 2.8MHz dsf.

At the moment i am playing it on my pc with Jriver media center 21 as i do not think my mu-so will play DSD, and i agree  it sounds excellent.

I am new to the world of DSD, i hope to buy a new uniti after the new year, will the uniti play my dsd download as is or do i need to convert it to dsd64, can dbpoweramp v15.3 do this

.

As i said i am new to the world of dsd and do not know my dsd64 form my dsd128  or dff from  dsf etc,

Thank you for the information. I am just downloading 3 albumy with this code

Dear All,

Sorry for the off topic but: have you got any idea how to "force" NAIM application to display an artwork downloaded with DSD files?

Posted on: 05 November 2015 by Andrewh

I also got Thriller - £8.40, so it would be silly not to! It's a definite improvement over my Thriller 25th Anniversary CD ripped to FLAC. I bought this for the first time back in 1982 when it was released and haven't listened to it lately so it's great to rediscover it!

Hi,

Your 2.8MHz dsf files are already DSD64 spec so shouldn't need to be converted. Incidentally, I prefer dsf to dff files as the former are much easier to edit their tags.

BTW assuming that you can stream to your Muso from your computer, you should be able to configure JRMC to transcode your dsf files to wav on the fly so that they can played on the Muso.

Finally, as I understand it, only the ND streamers can currently play DSD files natively so your Uniti won't play these unless you transcode them using JRMC.

Simply include a file of the album cover named folder.jpg  in the same folder as the music files. You may need to get your server to rescan before the app picks them up.

Dear Sjbabbey:

It is reasonable as it works in most of the times. Will it work even if the file is pdf? The artwork downloaded from HDtracks is in pdf.

Posted on: 05 November 2015 by sjbabbey

No, I'm afraid that the app doesn't recognise PDFs. However you should be able to use google images to find decent album cover artwork in jpg format and download/save as a folder.jpg file.

Alternatively, if you have Adobe Photoshop you can open the PDF file and save it as a jpg file.

Quickest thing is to Google the required image and get it as a jpg. I don't think a PDF will work. But try it and see?

sjbabbey, thank you for your reply.

I use MinimServer on my Qnap TS-131, can MinimServer or Asset transcode dsd to wav or can this only be done with Jriver.

I should also have said that Asset R5 can transcode DSD (both DSF and DFF) as WAV or as LPCM via its Advanced Settings but as I mentioned you would have to run it on your computer not your QNAP NAS drive.

Posted on: 05 November 2015 by sjbabbey

I've deleted my earlier reply since Minimserver on QNAP cannot actually transcode the dsf DSD file. It can send the DSD audio data as a "wav" file but it will still be DSD audio and therefore won't be playable by the Uniti or MuSo (although it can be played by the ND series streamers using the dsf:dopwav transcoding).

sjbabbey understood, and thank you for a quick replay, as always this forum is a gold mine when it comes to getting accurate information quickly and is greatly appreciated.

Hi again Edward,

I have done some research and discovered that, if you have an Intel based QNAP NAS (check the Systems Info on your NAS) you can update the version of ffmpeg [minimserver needs to use a ffmpeg version 2.3 or later for DSD conversion). ffmpeg  is the stream converter used by minimserver which will enable minimserver to convert from dsf to wav (24bit/176kHz). I have tried this out for my second system (a UQ2 streaming from my QNAP TS451) and it works fine.

There are instructions on how to update the ffmpeg file on the Linn Forum together with the settings you need to amend in minimwatch. If you google "Linn forum minimserver 0.8.3 now available" you should find the relevant instructions on page 3 of the discussion thread.

Alternatively, as I mentioned earlier, there is free software available (OSX/Linux, AFAIK) to convert DSD2FLAC, so you can then make a mu-so/non-DSD-Uniti/NAC-N172-friendly copy to keep on your server alongside the DSD files.

Foobar2000 does the same thing, with a plug-in IIRC, on Windows computers, as I think do dBPoweramp and JRiver with a bit of tinkering under the hood. I'm sure searches will turn up suitable instructions...

sjbabbey, the processor in my Qnap TS-131 is a Freescale ARM v7 Cortex-A9 dual-core 1.2GHz processor.

I plan to buy a new nas drive when i buy my new uniti after the new year, i had settled  on a Synology DS216play but will know buy a qnqp TS-251 with Intel Celeron 2.41GHz dual-core processor, and will use the TS-131 for backup duties.

sjbabbey and Andrew again your knowledge and guidance is much appreciated and i cannot thank you enough.

Hi Scott i too got this message and notated that when i relaunched the web page that for a moment the album is available and then the message "product is not currently available due to region restrictions" appears and the album is no longer visible on the screen.

I got around it by first closing down the hdtracks uk page, i then selected thriller from the email i got from hdtracks and when the page appears i clicked add to basket immediately the page appears and went strait to the checkout, this worked for me this time, so i would give it a go and see if it will work for you.

Hi Edward,
Cheers for the reply.
No luck that way unfortunately.I will keep trying and see if the status changes. In the meantime I have emailed HD tracks so hopefully they will shed some light on the issue.
Thanks again,scott
