Wireworld Matrix 2 Disappointment

Posted by: rsch on 07 November 2015

Last week i ordered a Matrix 2 6 Schuko sockets power block.

I was using a pretty mundane Vimar plastic 5 Schuko socket strip with Klimo fixed cord.

Reading some reviews on this forum I  was expecting a mild improvement at least.

However conntecting my Powerlines with the same order 1 Hi:Cap 2 555PSU, 3 Nap 250, 4 Napsc.

Connection from power strip to wall socket was done with standard  Nap 250 cord.

After a couple of cd i did not notice improvements whatsoever, on the contrary i had the impression that

something was lost.

Talking with the Italian distributor, he was not so much surprised, he also told me that Matrix 2 is not

actaully a star wired design but it has a sort of copper rails inside.

Alternatively, he suggested me an Acoustic Revive power block,if i wanna get a real improvement

but you know at 4k euro or 2.7k euro at least for an ex demo, for now i think it's better to splash this sort

of money on a black box upgrade.

Today i just collected another Powerline for the Napsc, the only still standard, i' m really

curious whether it' ll make any difference.

Regards

Roberto

Dustysox interesting that you preferred the 555PS digital in plugging order before the analogue.

Empathy, Darren. I'm current popping Amoxillin, prescribed by the dentist for a painful tooth infection.

I have been following this thread with interest.

I first bought my Wireworld Matrix 2 a good few years ago now. The first one failed after a couple of years. The plastic became brittle for some reason and snapped in a few locations. All rather weird. I spoke with the manufacturer who advised there was a poor batch. Anyway, they replaced the unit with a brand new one and all has been well ever since. Fantastic customer service.

I think it is a great bit of kit and produces good results compared to many other blocks that I have tested, some costing a lot more money.

I have tried a few different combinations of plugging things in over the last couple of days. Who would  have thought it would make such a difference, but it sure does.

In the end I have settled with the 300 plugged straight into a wall socket and then pre, sources and napsc into the the Matrix.

I hear I have an improvement in the HF area. All good.

Regards,

Nick

That happened to me as well - I managed to get a replacement which was constructed with internal buss-bars rather than the original soldered wires. In some respects the older one (before it broke) had some qualities I liked more, but the new one had other good qualities, especially on voice and mid-band. The new one could be 'bright', but getting plug-in order correct removed any of that and let the good effects stand.

I did try another brand which friends are using to good effect, but it didn't work as well when I tried it. Several years ago I never thought it mattered at all - but I experimented after noticing the sound of my system altered depending on where I plugged it in.

In any case good you found what worked for you - a 'free upgrade' once you already have the item.

All my Naim boxes are on a WW Matrix 2 strip. I thought that was what one did to get the best earthing arrangement. So I'm surprised to see some have got boxes plugged directly into the wall too. Have I misunderstood what earthing is about?

DB does it again!

I have long been an advocate of his plugging-in order and found that plugging the 300 directly in to the spur's first socket with all other components plugged in to the matrix block, itself connected to the spur's second socket by a Powerline, yielded the most pleasing sound in my system.

What I hadn't tried was separating the plugs for the A and D 555s by putting the D in the last available socket; surely, this couldn't make that much difference could it?

Yes, it could.

If you have an in-line block such as the Wireworld and are running two 555s, you really owe it to yourself to try this.

Another free upgrade courtesy of Mr. DB!

Thank you sir.
