DIN RCA cable for Naim source into Non Naim amp
Posted by: analogmusic on 09 November 2015
Ok so I have understood the benefits of using a RCA DIN cable for a non naim source into a Naim preamp.
I run my DAC V1 into my Yamaha HT amp with RCA RCA but thinking of a DIN RCA cable for that, is there benefit on putting a DIN into a Naim source too?

I've tried an RCA-DIN cable from my DAC and Phono Stage to my Naim 5i and the results were quite good..
But then I discovered KLE Innovations Harmony RCA plugs and I now run RCA-RCA for both of them.
Even using their entry level Copper Harmony RCA's , the improvements over the RCA-DIN IC were significant.
Right now I'm using the Absolute Harmony and my Naim 5i has never sounded better - of course, the cable has a lot to do with that also, but I'd never return to DIN.
Regards...

Yes, most notably the Naim Hiline RCA to DIN. The advantage of RCA to DIN over RCA to RCA is that there is one less physical contact connection and these contacts are the weak points in interconnects.
Hi Simon
Sorry I am not able to visualize this, can you please explain how the RCA to DIN is one contact less than RCA RCA?

naim is designed to sound best with din!
Hi Analogmusic,
each channel of the RCA to RCA cable has a signal and a ground contact, for a total of four contacts. The RCA to DIN has only three contacts as the channels share a common ground contact. If you take a look at the rear left hand side of a NAC 202/282/252, the is a nice diagram for the CD/Tuner/Aux2 input.
Mulberry, absolutely, thanks

In that case, apparently the headphone output and the RCA output of the Hugo are identical, so would running a minijack from the hugo headphone output into a DIN cable reduce one more ground and in effect, make it electrically the same as a Din-Din cable?
Interesting idea, give it a go and report back?
Hello everyone,
I've been reading the forum in the last days and this is my first post. I just got a Naim ND5 XS and a NAS QNAP TS-251 that I connected by ethernet cable to my lan. Everything is working fine and I was now wondering what interconnect I should use to connect the ND5XS to my amp (Audio Analogue Maestro 70 rev2) that only has RCA and XLR inputs.
I'm actually using Audioquest Columbia RCA/RCA. I have read that using a DIN to RCA cable is always better than RCA/RCA but I wonder if even a cable like the Chord Cobra VEE 3 would outperform the Columbia.
