Sonos Trueplay Software Update - Amazing Results

Posted by: Kendrick on 11 November 2015

If you own a Sonos Play 1, 3 and 5, install the latest software update and run the Trueplay to measure and adjust for how sound reflects off walls and furnishings.  The improvement in sound quality on my single Play 5 is stunning.  If this provides a glimpse of what room correction can do, I'm sold on the concept.  No idea whether this feature will be integrated into the Connect product, but I hope so.

I agree the improvement seems most worthwhile

I have a Play 5 in our study and have always been a bit disappointed with the sound, it was great when I unboxed it and tried it in the conservatory but has always sounded rather lifeless in the study.  If the Muso wasn't so large we would have changed to one.

Yesterday I ran the software, looking like an idiot waving the iPad around in the room and despite the software advising that there were only minor changes required the sound has considerably improved.  Definitely more extension to the bass and it sounds crisper.

It does make you wonder what room correction can do for a larger system.

My wife was in the bath whilst I was waving about my Ipad in the kitchen. She thought there was a problem with the boiler with all that noise coming from that sound-test routine!

Improved the sound of our little Play1 too.

I hope they push this out to the playbar and sub/ play1 surround set up soon!!

I was reading about this today - love our little Sonos boxes so good to hear the Trueplay is worth having a go with.

I was on the private beta programme for trueplay and it made no positive difference to my setup, but I'm glad it's improved the experience for you.

Yep, SONOS probably needed to do something to compete with the Paradigm wireless system that uses the room DSP from sister company Anthem than build the suposedly excellent AV Receivers.

Kendrick, BTW there is a dealer near us in WS.

Sounds like a good idea to include something like this into Naim products.

Yes that would be great. Also a small equalizer to be able to reduce the treble and turn up the bass a little bit for old recordings. Ideally via app including saving of equalizer profiles. Is there a good hifi system that does support this? I find it annoying that some good old music does not make fun anymore because the recording is sounding so harsh (like some old prince albums, etc.)

Yes, I think naim should also include a bass boost feature, and tone controls, also A and B speaker buttons.
