Replacing Transport on CDX2

Posted by: smu on 16 November 2015

Hello music loving people's

The transport on my CDX2 is on it's way out i fear.

The little plastic ring around the magnetic circle that you fit the cd over has a piece broken off it, and the transport is now making a very unnerving sound when i try to load a disc. So, it's going back to naim for some tlc.

I'm a bit worried about the cost of replacing the transport if it can't be fixed. Does anyone know how much a new transport costs?

It's 2007 model.

it may just be the CD mounting holder that has broken and Naim might be able to replace with existing transport - the unnerving noise is possibly the disc slipping perhaps because now the puck can't clamp the disc correctly - i agree a slipping disc does sound horrendous for some reason..

fingers crossed you won't need a new transport - sorry don't know cost

Coincidentally, I bought a s/h CDX2 last week. It's rather elderly (2003 model) so I was concerned about mechanism replacement.

If memory serves (and I'm sure someone will correct me if it doesn't), your model has the older mechanism (?VAM1250) but Naim have used an equivalent (?VAM1202) since the earlier model went out of production. When I emailed Naim about 10 days ago, they told me they have plenty in stock and can easily replace the older mechanism with the new one. The cost they quoted me for this was GBP350, but your mileage may vary, of course, depending on exactly how much TLC it needs. Hope that helps.

On a related note, has anyone had an older CDX2 mechanism replaced with the new one? If so, was any difference in SQ noticed? Dare I ask whether it sounded better or not?

Touch wood my 1250 keeps on going and going on my 2006 CDX2 which I bought new. I am on my second puck however.

Thank you Ebor.

£350 is eye watering amount, let's hope it can be fixed.

I hope it costs less. However, compared with what the CDX2 originally cost, not to mention what it will be worth if thrown in a skip like many of its peers, the cost maybe doesn't look so bad - relatively.
