Super Lumina RCA or XLR to Din?

Guys, as I posted on the other thread, I'm deciding between a NDS and a Linn Klimax DS/2 as an upgrade from my existing NDX, so one of the issues I need to consider is the interconnect between the Linn streamer and my Naim 552.  Can you share your views and experience on the following:-

 

1. Is RCA or XLR to Din connection sonically better than RCA to RCA on 552?

 

2. Say the answer to 1 above is in the affirmative,  I note from Naim's website that it offers Din to RCA or XLR SL, is it correct that it has no RCA or XLR to Din SL available?

 

3. If the answer to 2 is in the affirmative, will there be any compromise on SQ if I use a Din to RCA or XLR the other way round? 

 

4. Any other good recommendatiom for high quality RCA or XLR to Din cable for connecting a non-Naim streamer source to 552?

1. RCA-Din would be superior to RCA-RCA on the 552.

2. The RCA-Din SL IC will be fine, I use one from the Hugo to the 552 with excellent effect.

3. No compromise with the RCA-Din configuration.

 

I'm not sure about using the Din-XLR as an interconnect. They have been designed as a connect between the 552PS and the 500/300. Check with Naim.

 

The other cable option would be the Chord STA/Super Aray cables. I use a Super Aray Din-XLR.

Steve please correct me if I wrong, but I thought the SL XLR were designed to go between the Naim's Pre Amp and Amp. I thought the only purpose of the PS was to power the Pre . Hence, we only have Naim SL's from Source to Pre, from Pre to Amp, and SL Speaker Cable from Amps to Speakers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

However, in an Active System, the signal is carried from the Pre to the Snaxo , then Snaxo to Amps.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I'm just making sure I understand the process, before I make my purchase!

 

 

 

 

 

Also took a look at the back of the klimax, looked like the OP's only options were rca's & xlr's balanced xlr's.

The Din-XLR goes from the signal out Din sockets on the back of the 552PS to the XLR sockets on the 500 In a passive system.They would probably work in the situation you want but just check first.

I would suggest your dealer contact Naim to discuss your requirements here.  What you appear to want is a balanced XLR to single-ended DIN or RCA i/c.  I'm not sure whether Naim can offer this, but I would suggest you check with them to be sure.
