Im a newbie . The snac4 has a white band towards on end. I cant recall what end that goes to the pre or the amp...thanks

Towards the source  -   in this case closest to the HiCap

I use a 42 pre and 110 amp. No hi cap. So the band is closer to the the pre-amp?

Posted on: 21 November 2015 by Mike-B

Yes, closer to the preamp  - towards the source -

If a hicap was in play I believe band should still be closer to preamp

The band is always closest to the source of signal.

Correct

Power-amp - SNAIC4 (band) - HC - SNAIC5 (band) - Pre-amp - IC - Source(s)

Maybe it's not useless to specify (the OP may not know it) that when a HiCap is in play, the signal is taken from the preamp to the psu by the snaic 5, so it's the snaic 4 that takes the signal from the psu to the power amp, and in this case the white band must be at the psu end, because that is the source.

With no hi-cap, white band preamp side.

Excuse my ignorance but what happens if the cable is connected in the wrong direction?

Your hair will fall out.

That explains a lot but serious guys is there a sensible answer?

Posted on: 25 November 2015 by Mike-B

It can be connected the wrong way round,  the pin connection configuration is the same on both ends,  all Naim 4 pin DIN cables have exactly the same connection.

Naim select the optimum directionality

Ok. It will work, but not as well.

Posted on: 25 November 2015 by stimmy

Would this effect sound quality And if so by much?

Posted on: 25 November 2015 by hungryhalibut

Just try it. It won't effect sound quality in any way, but it will adversely affect it.

You've lost me there HH please explain, unfortunately my system is in a very heavy glass and wood AV rack so not easy to move to check, I will need to ask a friend to help me move it to check

Posted on: 25 November 2015 by Naimiac

Or, speaking of directionality, inversely affect it.

Not at all. Simply the spelling!

you kill me - lol

Posted on: 25 November 2015 by hungryhalibut

If it sounds ok I really wouldn't worry. Maybe you can just pull the Hicap forward and check. The band is near the din plug so it will be easy to see if the lead is the right way round.

HH, my system comprises of a 152/155xs, a cd5xs, and two  flatcaps, one flatcap powers both upgrade paths on the amp or preamp (excuse my ignorance again) and the other flatcap powers the cd5xs so the chances of me having some cables the wrong way round is very high - if anyone could explain the wiring directions on this setup I would be extremely grateful ie what band end goes where

Posted on: 25 November 2015 by Richard Dane

The bands go closest to the NAC152xs.  The manual gives you a picture (one of the PSUs is a Hicap in the manual, but it's the same as the connection with a Flatcap).  The band on the SNAIC between the CD5xs and Flatcap goes closest to the CD player.  Again, just like it shows in the manual...

Many thanks Richard, appreciate it
