Hiding screw heads on Quadraspire wall shelf.

Posted by: Wiltshireman on 22 November 2015

Hi all. I have just bought a Quadraspire wall shelf for my LP12 and was going to fit it tomorrow but when I removed it from its box this evening I realised that the fixing screw heads will show. The steel plate is black therefore anything I use must be black as well. I am in the building trade and realise that fixings used will often be vary immensely subject to wall fabrication and that in no way could or should Quadraspire supply any but I do think they could have devised and supplied something to hide any fixings used. So then to my question, anyone any ideas of anything I could use? I am expecting to use screws that will fit into the non countersunk holes so a normal type screw will look terrible and I am expecting them to be imperial size 12 or metric size 6 so a fairly large sized head at that. I rarely ever go to DIY shops and am not sure that the 30 mile journey needed would result in finding anything I could use.

I once used one of these shelves. I used black round headed screws and it was fine. Something like 12 by 3" should do it.

Hi Hungryhalibut.

Thanks for the reply and yes they would probably do the job nicely though due to nature of my wall 100mm would be more the length but where can I get some from? They are not a normal building trade type of screw and like I said a trip to a diy store is for me a 30 mile round trip. I have looked on line but as I only need six so buying a box full is not really on and then knowing my luck I would probably find I needed an bigger size or something. My old shelf has hidden screws but I am not able to rob from that as it of a very different construction. I will most probably use ordinary screws temporarily and then look to do a better job another day.

i don't know anything About the shelf you mention but could you not use snap caps.Screw the required screw in the push on the snap cap.
Just a thought.

Fasten Master timberlok and black to boot in a 100mm size No6. Hi Hungryhalibut, may look to use something like this, though they do look a little industrial they may be my best bet. You can see a pic on the screw fix site. Cheers for now.

Caps are a good idea. Or you could just sand, prime and paint the screw heads black.

Or use a black marker pen on the screw heads when done?

Hi, could you use hex type fixings as you can get plastic covers to go over these just a thought.

As long as the caps are black they would be fine but I have never seen any only white ones. I am going to go to town tomorrow to see just what is available and will get back to you all then. Oh and just paint or use a felt tip might just be the way to go but I do think that a little bit diy, I do like to do things properly if I can.
