New The Wall - worth while ?
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 24 November 2015
All is the new one worthwhile in high res or are we all well served with the original recordings and live recordings which most of us own. So anybody has experience with the new recording ?
I am listening to it on Tidal @44.1/16.. Quite like it .. So far really captures the large rock concert feel.. Quite a deep full bodied sound and lots of thumps and rumbles coming from the speakers.

Maybe it's the sound of people hitting the floor as they fall asleep.....
Ahh, not me I love this album in all its incarnations...

Or falling down while being shot by the famous helicopter......:-)

Thanks, I value your opinion and will give it a listen as well, before bying.
Ok, just about listened to it all the way through.. Lots of interesting variations...the bass is a little overly strong perhaps compared to the studio albums .. But that was the effect they were after perhaps for that rock stadium effect. RW's voice is also sounding a little aged.. which unfortunately I found slightly off putting at times..
As a DVD it is a good watch & very entertaining, the band, sound, stage effects & the whole production is excellent. It almost makes me think its a PF tribute band. I will be buying as a DVD (if Santa does drop one).
As an audio only album I am not buying. The original Wall is to me the only one, I consider the originals or remasters of Pink Floyd to be the only versions, to me they are sacred.
I do however appreciate subsequent individual PF tracks from other live concerts, Comfortably Numb by David Gilmour on Live in Gdansk for (superb) example, but its a single unconnected Wall track & not the complete work as is this RW live version. Add to that RW is not Pink Floyd, if it was all the original line up then yes I would buy it as a live Pink Floyd concert, but its not.
Finally Roger Walters voice, 100% agree with Simon, it has aged & I too find it off putting, but maybe better described as distracting, he drifts off key & he no longer has the range.
I admire Rogers work from the past, but unlike David Gilmour who is working with a lot of his own new material, he does not attract me with recycling the past.
In that case Mike I don't think you'll be interested in this limited edition super-duper box set on RW's site for a mere $500.
I really enjoyed the Blu-ray. It's a great overall show. Worth the £20 just for Comfortably Numb with this spectacular graphics.
Not so convinced by the just hi-res audio. Sounds OK but I'd prefer a good hi-res remaster of the original album. Now RW has his ego stroking money maker out maybe we will get one :>

I'd like HD remasters of all the PF classics ........... the DSOTM remaster for the 2003 SACD / CD (16/44.1) release, taken from the original master tape, was a step up from the red book, if that can be done, why not all.
I guess its when big pink pigs will fly .............
I have just purchased this album in triple vinyl From HMV the Mall, Bristol.Great packaging and sound played on my LP12 active SL 2 system. Sufficiently different to original The Wall to make it to my ears a very enjoyable version even if RW,s voice is not as young as in the original.

So what's changed? With respect, I'm a big fan of PF and RW, but the guy never had much of a voice or vocal range to start with. He wrote great music to suit his limited range, who could blame him? His upper limits were usually associated with ranting, maniacal vocals. Doesn't mean I don't love his albums and their musical journey. I made the comment here in the past that RW sings just slightly better than Ringo.
