Fluttering Sound....Help!
Posted by: mikeybaby on 27 November 2015
System is CDX2/82/200/HC/SBL--All serviced.
When I play music especially through my laptop I hear a fluttery jittery sound that is very terrible.
I even heard it when playing a well recorded Phillips Cd through my CDX2. Is it my power bar? Oyadie M-6..I paid good money....or my mains dirty? or are my speakers shot??. i replaced the tweeters last month and checked the woofers for spring back and they test fine. So did the crossovers. I am totally stumped. Anyone?

I can't imagine the mains having such a negative effect. Have you tried bypassing the oyadie and connecting directly into the wall socket?
Years ago I experienced terrible audio from my laptop plugged into the dac but it was fixed with a driver update, but if you're hearing the same through your cd player then there's something else going on.

I think maybe its just bad recordings because some sound perfect.

Maybe the amp is the culprit. An old CB 250. Seems to flutter more when the amp agets very warm.

Sounds like the ageing regulator boards could be going into oscillation. This is not a benign problem and should be addressed ASAP.

So what needs to be done?

It needs a full service if it is going into oscillation. Not cheap, but it will break if not, and take the speakers with it along the way.
Please resist the temptation to use it again, until it is diagnosed and serviced.
Good luck, ATB from George

Sticking to the 8-10 year service intervals is critical with a regulated power amp like the classic NAP250.
