streamer

hi everyone please could you tell me which naim streamer to get to replace my cdx2 with xps 2 please .
The NDX streamer is probably about the same level as the CDX2 and you can just transfer the XPS over If you want to squeeze more performance from it.
Regarding the server, the Unitiserve is the convenient choice and what I have myself, but many people in the forum would argue that you should stream from a NAS using one of several different available low cost upnp servers. Thus option is much cheaper but involves you in getting the files into the NAS, either by ripping them from CD or downloading them to a computer and moving them across. It probably depends most in what your relationship with computers is like. You also need to factor in something to control the music. Probably the best way currently is an iPad running the IOS Naim app, but again there are going to be those who might argue other approaches.
Anyway there is no shortage of advice available here!

FWIW, I went from CDX2/XPS to NDX/XPS and the two are very different in terms of presentation.
I found the CDX2 great for rock and electronica but less good for most other types of music and it can sound bright and even harsh in some systems. The NDX is more laid back with better detail resolution and generally more pleasant to listen to on a much wider range of music but it does lack 'boogie factor' (I know, it's a horrible term) in comparison with the CDX2.
A good alternative would be ND5 XS or NDX +Chord Hugo and sell both the CDX2 and XPS
I used to have a CDX2 & its a hard act to follow, even more so with the XPS.
I eventually chose NDX & kept the XPS to power the NDX, I must say that the XPS does good things to NDX, but its not such a significant upgrade as it is with the CDX2.
The CDX2 is very much like a front row rock concert, the NDX more detailed & refined.
Add to that you need a means of ripping CD's, whilst I agree with Minh a Unitiserve is good for that, once the ripping is done it looses its value & it does not possess the flexibility & ease of editing programs as does a NAS.
I would strongly recommend a NAS, Synology, QNAP, all more or less the same, plus you can choose, change & play with various UPnP media server programs
I use my PC (or Mac) to rip CD's & I have a choice of the built in disc read/write drive, or better for a lot of discs I use a desktop drive.
I use dBpoweramp for the ripping program & for any tag editing such it be needed - & its the best there is at everything it does.
Don't try to mess with wireless, get it right from the start & have all wired ethernet, NAS to switch to NDX & a branch off the switch to your router/wireless hub. .
I went from CDS3 to HDX which rips, stores and serves music.
I have not missed any sound quality since selling the CDS3 but have rediscovered lots of music which I had misfiled or "lost" on CD.
