50 ways to leave your lover, well the forum.

Posted by: Sloop John B on 06 December 2015

A few high profile defections lately.

For some their posts seem to have all been deleted.

Is this at the ex- member's request or is it a moderated response?

Or is there a button - I want to leave, that automatically does this, whereas if you just say goodbye all your posts are left?

Apart from if I was leaving in a fit of pique I can see no reason to have all posts deleted. It makes some threads very strange (the chain challenge).

I suspect Richard will moderate me if I mention people who "wish to be forgotten " but I'm just wondering on whose part, forum or member that the deletions come about?

I believe one can choose.

I hadn't realised anyone had left recently to be honest

I'm a naim forumite, get me outta here.

Oh and switch off me history while you're about it. And never mention my avatar again.

Careful Jamie you may be taken seriously. We wouldn't want to lose your lovely photos.

For a moment I though George/Agricola had left again.

Thankfully not !

I assume you referring to the recent departure of a user with a Hugo and Magnepans.

Some peolpe seem to think it's some kind of game to leave, only to return with a "carefully" crafted new prescence.

I think they get bored and then try and show how cleaver they are. What they don't hide well is their personal preferences/dislikes.

Never that clever to show your cleaver...Not in public anyway

I was sad to see him leave, though a ghostly presence lives on, quoted in others' replies.

Separately, my forum experience was made much more pleasurable when I discovered the 'block member' function.

I am sometimes having the feeling that leaving is kind of an event for some people. I am not so moved by this discussions. I am happy with everybody who contributes in a sensible manner. I discovered a lot of great music through this forum, so only that has proven to be enough reason for me to stay on. I would only leave if the discussions / experiences on real music listening would not be happening anymore.

That certainly seems to have happened a few times. Its amusing to "out" the new persona.

Another group of leavers seem to me to be making a cry for help, or recognition, hoping that there will be enough clamour from onlookers for them to reverse their decision and stay.

Can't say I've noticed any leavers recently so don't know whether either of the above groups fit.

If I leave any group I just leave without any fanfare or fuss.
I've done it when I realised my heart wasn't in what I was doing there any more. I talk individually to the people in the group that have become friends and with the leaders beforehand in private - then depart - done!

We are all different. I usually hang-on too long in groups in a forlorn hope they will get better and they usually don't, so it is a gut thing with me. Silently departing works best - I'm not that important in my mind and the group carries on as it wants with those wanting to be in it.

Deleting historic submissions that now have context with other posts is just wrong and should not be possible - it shows bloody-minded poor character in my opinion, but, we are all different, so perhaps it had to happen for the person concerned.

As to drama queen behavior of out and in and out...well that also says something and it is probably best just to forgive it. We all make mistakes.

DB.

Wat left very quietly and discretely. Knowing him personally that just the sort of person he is. He was always good for advise although, just like George with his ESLs, he did slightly overemphasise the virtues of his Magnepans.

I have to say, there are certain people who for no reason at all seem to like to have a go at me. The Internet allows people to behave in a way they would never behave face to face. It really does make me want say oh, **** it, but there are sufficient numbers of others who seem to find my posts helpful that I soldier on. As well as that, I've received fantastic advice from others and I wouldn't want to shut the door on that. But it does become trying at times.

Apologies, apologies apologies. A thousand apologies.

I won't mention golden pensions again, never, ever.

Perhaps

No problem there, Don, it's intelligent discussion with intelligent people. It's the others.

And sometime they made proselytes...  Me included!

I've been following the forum for a few years. It has changed over the past year with many good contributors leaving. Those that go against the grain are often at the mercy of a horde of Naim fanboys.

It has become progressively worse with the release of Statement and Super Lumina. The chrome bumper, olive and classic series were minimal and modest in design. They did not cry out "Look at me!". Statement does not belong in the Naim family. All it does is create divisions within the fraternity.

Super Lumina is another example that has caused divisions amongst the ranks. There are so many cable companies out there. Some of them make out of this world claims and some have been reprimanded by the ASA. Naim is not the authority on cables. We are talking about a piece of wire that carries a signal. All wires impart their unique signature. A name describes an object. It is used to differentiate it from another object. There is no magic, but to the fanboys it resides within the gospel of Naim. I have never seen so much brown nosing in my life.

To be honest, I always mix you two up anyway.

Thanks Jamie! It could be a lot worse.

Ever since i got my limited edition 555 Npad, my limited experience of this forum has taken on a far greater depth, resolution and timbre perspectives than I could ever imagine.

But it makes it so bright I have to wear shades .
