50 ways to leave your lover, well the forum.
Posted by: Sloop John B on 06 December 2015
A few high profile defections lately.
For some their posts seem to have all been deleted.
Is this at the ex- member's request or is it a moderated response?
Or is there a button - I want to leave, that automatically does this, whereas if you just say goodbye all your posts are left?
Apart from if I was leaving in a fit of pique I can see no reason to have all posts deleted. It makes some threads very strange (the chain challenge).
I suspect Richard will moderate me if I mention people who "wish to be forgotten " but I'm just wondering on whose part, forum or member that the deletions come about?
and we had someone who loved Denons.

I swapped my Heart for an extra liver !
Diverse opinions are what make the forum interesting. I definitely miss Wat, as a thread without a recommendation to buy a pair of Maggies just isn't the same anymore.
Having a room of eccentric characters with similar interests is easy to come by but finding a room with few trolls is rare and there are not many on the forum. Generally disagreements are cordial and soon forgotten.
Though I have taken advice from very knowledgeable members before only to find it was rubbish and had a terrible impact on the system - I wouldn't leave the forum because of it.

HH,
Inspirational words. I admire your bravery to persevere here, as well as your humility. Chin up lad!
Many long term members have left this forum. Regardless of whether their departure was dramatic or a retreat into the shadows, the fact remains the same: members are leaving.
What happened to the diversity? Do members prefer to have a lawn of grass or a wilderness of variety?
In nature there are a myriad of species. Each is beautiful in its own way.
We need to be tolerant of each other. We should be able to contribute without fear of retribution. We can all live happily together. There is enough room for everyone

Blimey, that sounds like a Labour speech. You haven't been writing Hilary Benn's speeches by any chance, Minh?
Well said, Minh.

From the poster who said a 552 rebuild at the Naim factory was nothing more than Naim playing the placebo effect. I don't think that sort of slander of Naim should be tolerated in here. Plenty of other places where you can shit all over them.

You have misconstrued the statement that I made. It was supposed to be conveyed as light hearted humour instead of a literal statement
Well, that's a relief. And there was me thinking you were calling Naim and me fools.
It doesn't matter. It just seemed apposite given you call for tolerance.
Anyway, onward and upwards as they say.

I hadn't realised Steve, that's a shame as I enjoyed his posts

The Internet allows people to behave in a way they would never behave face to face. It really does make me want say oh, **** it, but there are sufficient numbers of others who seem to find my posts helpful that I soldier on. As well as that, I've received fantastic advice from others and I wouldn't want to shut the door on that. But it does become trying at times.
To be fair HH, you do have lamentable taste in the Smiths, but even with that the forum would be a poorer place without you and others who post on a regular basis

I am unclear what you are trying to convey with the highlighted statement.
You can't expect to slag people off and not expect some sort of retribution.
Expressing a point of view about equipment is fine. Others might disagree and say so. Disagreement shouldn't be seen as retribution.
One man's robust discussion could be another man's last straw before committing suicide. - or leaving the forum
Perhaps you could expand on your point of view ?
The forum seems a lot quieter since the hoopgrade. Too bad that Berlin Fritz and Acad Tsunami aren't around.
I think you'll find that Acad Tsunami is still around. He's living a fantasy life in the far east.

Not sure but it would not surprise me. I am finding it awkward to navigate. It's just too magnified.

It is with reference to comments that would not be construed as either constructive criticism or intelligent discussion

I too wonder if the 'upgrade' has been to blame, but I think I noticed before this event that things had become a bit stale on here. I just wonder where they're all going? Heading north maybe? Or to the kabin in the woods? I'm not sure that any other forum I've visited has the same ease of use as this had prior to the recent change.
Frank F posted:...People leave for many reasons but I think that heavy mode ration is sometimes the cause.
Urban Dictionary defines "Heavy mode" as a semi-erect penis. I've never felt the need for rationing though.

You need to connect mode and rationing but I like the heavy mode definition

I know. The space was just so well placed though.
But as to the issue of moderation here, Richard applies a light touch. If you want heavy, try the Harbeth forum...
