N-vi and certain cds ?

Bought a new cd copy of x & y by Coldplay to replace the one my son has taken, N-vi won't play it at all, goes all weird, tries to load then just stops at o on the display then takes ages to get the disc to come out of the player, original copy was no problem, any one got any other cds the N-vi won't play ? glad i prefer the vinyl edition of the album.
John, if you have a computer loaded with something like EAC or DBpoweramp, you can try ripping the disc securely to see whether it has errors from a pressing fault. If you can get a clean rip then burn it onto a CDR and see whether that plays OK in the n-Vi.
Other than that, maybe the disc thickness is out of spec. I find that DVD mechanisms are quite sensitive to this. Dualdiscs cause most problems but current production discs that have very thin centre sections also cause issues. Most alarming I find is the number of pressing faults that are cropping up on new discs I buy, even from labels who you'd think would be offering a quality product.
Richard, did what you suggested ripped it onto a blank cd, strange thing is the ripped cd is not recognised by any of my bd players or the N-vi but will play on either of my two lap-tops ?
John, did you rip to WAV? Also check your burn settings (burn at 4x, 8x max) and make sure the disc is finalised. If not, then most PCs will still read OK, but domestic players won't.
Depending on your software, you may be able to just copy the CD, in which case it will automatically be finalised. I do this for CD use in the car, as I regard that as a VERY adverse environment for the originals!
Asked wifey to make me a copy as it is still on the laptop, looked like she done the same as i did only difference being the copy she done plays in everything including the N-vi, Richard, Dungassin, thanks for all of your help

I don't know but perhaps it isn't a CD. It depends how they hid the hidden track.
"The album contains twelve tracks and an additional hidden track, "Til Kingdom Come". It is omitted from the track listing on the album sleeve, but listed as "+" on the disc label and inside the album booklet."
and
" It was issued on 7 June in the United States by Capitol Records. The album has been released with the Copy Control protection system in some regions."
If this was the casewith your copy then it isn't a CD. Weirdly (and as you found) you can copy it and the copy plays.
Wish they wouldn't do that.
Adam, looked on the cd and yes you are correct it has the + sign, still dosen't explain how the disc still plays in some other players ie sony bd player, but not in the N-vi
John,
I doubt whether Capitol Records could explain it either. Seriously, once a CD veers away from the Red Book standard then all bets are off as far as universal playability. Copy control systems are a particular abomination. The fact that the very machines that they were designed to flummox can usually copy them with ease makes the whole thing a complete waste of time. Anyway, glad you managed to find a solution.
