Voltage Range

Dear all,

My unitiqute2 which I was purchased was marked 230V at the back of the unit. I would like to know if the voltage input should be strictly at 230 voltage? If my area has a voltage higher than normal, say, as 242V , would it cause any damage to the unit? As heard from others, most gear would accept a +/- 10% variation! For the unit working in such prolong voltage, is that ok?

Thanks all!

Nori, not sure of your location, but in the UK the supply used to be a nominal 240V. This was harmonised a few years back to a European standard of 230V with a tolerance of +10 /-6%. In reality though nothing has changed we still get the same 240V but it falls in the acceptable range of 216-253V. So you have nothing to fear, any equipment placed on sale must support the tolerances of supply.

Thanks SB!

So basically is that means the transformer inside was actually  a 240V unit? And it was printed as 230V only because of the adaptation for wide range of voltage configuration?

I also live in a non standard location that delivers 104v instead of 110 or 115. Before purchasing, I confirmed with Naim that the transformers do in fact have a +/- 10% tolerance and was told it should be fine.

The harmonisation dates back to 1995, so I would expect newer products to use transformers designed for a 230V nominal voltage. However I have no insight into Naim Engineering so cannot confirm this. Realistically it makes little practical difference due to the wide tolerances involved.

Hi, I've been using a qute2 for 2 years now. I've been measuring my mains voltage in prep for biasing a new power amp, and here in Singapore the avg voltage at the outlet is over 245V.

It has not caused any issues with the qute that I can discern (it does vary from 243 - 248) but I do sometimes feel that the the sound is a little different - but that may just as easily be my ears or mood.

The 230V transformers are fine working on anything from 220V up to 250V - I'm told that in some remote parts of Australia the voltage can exceed even 250V and Naim kit is fine.

Very good! Thank you all for info!
