Problems with the Unitiqute 2 & app

Posted by: magicaxeman on 09 December 2015

Everything had been running tikity boo since getting the UQ2 and setting up my NAS drives & network but lately its been playing up.

The problem has been that over the last few weeks if I leave the UQ2 overnight the next day it won't play from the NAS, it just comes up as "searching" and then "track skipped".

I ran the suggested network checker on my iPad and the one thing that stood out was bonjuer isn't running on the UQ2 at all, is that significant?

The network seems to be working fine and I have no other issues apart from having to constantly power off and then power on again the UQ2, which is a pain for me as it means waiting until a carer gets here. ( I can't reach it and didn't want to use a remote power socket due to noise)

My system is based around an Asus RT-AC68U router so not a cheapo freebie router but a well regarded one.

3 x Buffalo link station NAS drives ( 2 x 2TB back up drives & a 6TB Main drive as iTunes/media server In another room) are connected to a Netgear switch, via cat 6 cable, the switch is then connected via cat 6 cable to the router in my main room, the UQ 2 connects to the same router via cat 6 cable and my macbook is also connected to the router the same way. No cable runs exceed 5 metres.

The app is running on an iPad mini 2 running iOS 9.2

Yes I store all my media in iTunes and my iTunes library is located on the 6TB NAS (Running as 2 x 3TB drives, mirrored) and have never had a problem doing so with either my old windows set up or the mac system I now use.

Any idea's at all? or does the UQ2 need a visit to my local dealer?

Quick question. Have you tried leaving the Qute on a different input overnight? Say, enable the USB and switch to it, then switch back in the morning.

Also it might be worth trying pausing the music (pick an album you don't want to listen to, press play, wait a bit, press pause, leave overnight) That might keep the network viable.

Bonjour on a Qute? Never heard of it, ever! Dead herring IMO.

Good luck!

As I understand it, you need bonjour to be running. I suggest you contact Phil Harris at Naim (info@naimaudio.com) and he will be able to sort this out for you.

Is Bonjour something on a Qute or is it a network thing?

It's a network thing, something about how devices talk to each other - hence 'bonjour'.

Googling bonjour in France is thankless... Merci!

One other thing you could try is giving your NAS a set IP if it hasn't already got one.  Any time I restarted my NAS it was given a different IP by the router and then my UQ2 couldn't find it.  Once I gave the NAS a static IP and pointed the UQ2 towards it, it always finds it after powering them off.

You need to ensure that Bonjour is enabled on the NAS (you can't turn it off on the streamer so that will be on, but the router may be blocking it).

You need to ensure that IGMP is enabled on the router.

You may need to disable IGMP snooping on the router (this sorted out my discovery problems).

Try just selecting a different input on the Qute in the morning then come back to the UPnP. Works with Asset when required.
