TQ Black Interconnect woes
Posted by: dayjay on 10 December 2015
I bought a TQ Black interconnect this week to go between my Hugo and SN2. There was nothing wrong with the Chord Anthem Reference that was already there but I wanted to see if there was any synergy with the TQ Black speaker cables that I have and love and I figured that if it isn't as good I can always use it on my tuner. I put them in on Monday and there was an immediate increase in bass and what seems like a lot more detail but it has been a series of ups and downs ever since with flashes of brilliance interspersed with an in your face sound that I find a little irritating. Has anyone any experience with these, and in particular does anyone know if there is any kind of run in period or is what I currently have the end state? Quite annoying because at time it sounds brilliant but at other times a little wearing. Any views welcome.
I used RCA-RCA TQB between Hugo & SN2 - absolutely fine to my ears. I'm moving them on only to replace with the Din-Din TQB now that I'm back with NDAC.

Thanks Graeme, did it take long to burn in do you recall?
Mine were 'pre-loved'...G
Perhaps I just need to give it a bit of time. I've got Emerald from Jailbreak on at the moment and it sounds fab but it's very hit and miss at the moment. On the plus side my Nat 05 sound fantastic with the Chord on it!
I can't speak to the specific brand and model but my experience has been that yes interconnects can take some time to come on song. I'd give them at least a week or 10 days.
Did anyone compare the TQ Black with Naim Hiline?
Thanks and Regards,
Stefano
Give it time Dayjay and it will come on song nicely . Its always an anxious wait with new cables , especially when they are 3rd party
..........
I had a very jittery week when I installed the Black Diamond RCA but very satisfied now . I have the Black DIN as well saved for another day .

I've had 2 hours of listening using TQ Black DIN-DIN Interconnect between Naim DAC and Nait XS-2 and I can identify with what you're describing. In my system TQ Black DIN-DIN Interconnect is a replacement for the Naim Lavender which I'd stuck with in order to play it safe and not diminish the Naim sound.
there is an immediate new presence of bass in the music playback with TQ Black DIN-DIN Interconnect, in particular for music where there was flat or practically no bass audible previously. I can understand also that the sound will hover the boundary of being tolerably forward, to then become harsher or a bit shrill.
There is always a danger that a different sort of cable can suppress the Naim sound traits for dynamism and excitement, I've had this with Chord Company RCA types of interconnect. But luckily this TQ Black DIN-DIN isn't going to do that or at least by first impressions with limited listening.
With the TQ Black speaker cables I did notice some settling in the sound during a 48 to 72 hour period and much of this time was by leaving the system on to put signal through the wire. After this amount of time if there was any further change I didn't detect it. Later on I'm leaving a source running on repeat playback overnight to put signal through the DIN-DIN wire and hopefully it will help to settle the sound. Either way it is an improvement over the Naim DIN-DIN which itself had an occasional tendency to sound shrill too.
Thanks guys, I have music playing through it on a loop to help run it in. The soundstage and bass is already better than the anthem reference so there is some hope that it will all come good. I'll report back next week.

This stinks of 'run in'. I would give it a good 7-10 days with plenty of music playing to let it settle before making a definitive decision. I'm sure it will come on song ![]()

Not just third party cables, my SL RCA-Din IC took a good few weeks to overcome the effects Dayjay is experiencing.
So, no need to be in a rush.

I thought you'd like that! My new speaker cables, despite being ex dem, are sounding a bit ropey today, so I know how you feel.
First time I've had it as bad as this with a cable, real ups and downs. I've left it running most of the day with the sound muted and I'm sure it will come good because there have been moments when it was very nice. 24 hours in it was almost unbearable!
BTW, congrats on the cables, I hope they sound as good, once settled, as has been reported on here
I have recently swapped my interconnects and speaker cable to tellurium q black diamond and I can catagorically say that they need more time to show their true colours.
tellurium q sell a burn in disc that I left running each night for over 10 days plus general play through the day, but it was painful as the sound was dull and lacked emotion. One day everything changed (well left channel first) and I haven't looked back since.
my advise is leave it playing whenever possible and be patient, it will be worth it, they are exception cables
Exceptional!
New TQB Din-Din (& DC1 BNC-BNC) in for a couple of hours now and it is beginning to round off nicely already. Initially the frequency extremes were highlighted and ragged much as you describe, and with a rather flat presentation.
Tracey Chapman's epoymous first album is always a good test as her voice can sound a bit 'reedy' when something is off. Suffice to say their is more bloom, texture and character developing there, even in this short period (the cables were very cold from the courier depot too). The presentation is developing a more 3 dimensional sound stage too. The sub-bass in 'Mountains o' Things' has just gone through me...which is a good sign!
Long weekend ahead.

Be patient and leave your system running whilst not listening to it, you'll know when it finally comes good!
I use TQ Black DIN-DIN between nDAC and SN2. I replaced ARSound Lunar with it recently. A great cable really! I have similar impressions of the sound than previous posters. Bass performance is excellent and it hits slightly deeper than before with more texture and details. I also find the sound more dynamic and exciting with TQ than Lunar.
I haven't compared HiLine directly with TQ but I have auditioned it back when I bought the Lunar. I found it way too clinical and analytical sounding. 15 minutes of listening and I got listening fatigue back then.
I'm using the TQ black diamond din interconnect. I home demoed the black din and loved it. Only went with the diamond as a great deal came up. These cables take a crazy amount of time to burn in. Mine sounded almost flat and lifeless when I first fitted it. But after a few weeks it really opened up. Stick with it. It will reward your patience!
I've run various test and compared HiLine vs TQBlack and TQ Black Diamond. Took me about a month to decide.
TQ Black Diamond stayed.

Has anyone run this system enhancement CD? Its available as a WAV download, just curious, below is the Product Description. Alchemy or does it have a point??
Product Description
Most music follows a form that can be calculated with a fourier transform analysis and time frequency analysis indicating it is not random, which simply means that your system can get into a “rut”. Like going to a gym and training only a few specific muscles for years and then wondering why your body is out of balance. This recording takes your system through a full workout of frequencies and tonal changes that is specifically designed to stretch your system’s components and bring new life into your music.
We place equal importance on all frequencies and even go into deep bass in a way that sub woofers will benefit from while working up through mids into the upper high frequency ranges in a non-sequential , non- Fourier way. There are also no pure ratio intervals to allow your system to slouch while it is having its work out. This is also one of the prime reasons that music played normally is slow to burn in components compared to this tool. Music does not cover your system’s range in a way that exercises the components sufficiently in a mechanical, electronic and magnetic sense to burn in your various components as efficiently.
