Upgrade speakers for Uniti 2

Posted by: snowmonster on 13 December 2015

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I have recently upgraded from a rega apollo r / brio r to a uniti 2 with fabulous results. I am currently using my existing speakers which are rega rs5 and speakers cable is rega duet. although the sound is excellent with good treble detail, sometimes the bass is overblown, my room is 12 foot x 10 foot with an arch into another room to the side of the right speaker. I keep thinking that I could get better results from the uniti 2 if I upgrade but don't want to get even more bass. my first though was kudos x2 or x3 or neat motive xs1 or xs2 but would these be an upgrade giving me as good a treble detail or should I go for good stand mounts like kef ls50 or neat petite sx. I have up to £2000. just to let you know the bass was not a deep with the rega electronics.

I had B&W684 S2s with a Unitilite then spotted an ex demo pair of 683 S2s for a good price.  They worked really well - bass was full yet not at all overblown.  I've since gone to an SU and am hugely impressed with the combination with the 683S2s .  Might be worth a listen ?

I feel a bit like a broken record on this one, but the Focal 926's were voiced by Naim to work with the Uniti2 and this is what I have at home. Sounds wonderful to me but the speakers do need to be tested in your own home. If you're worried about bass then you might also want to try the 906's as well.

Have fun experimenting!

Thats the signature of RS5 in many rooms / setups

Listen to the new RX1, maybe RX3 if these can be controlled in the deep area, they are very much more expensive though

I have had most of the older rega range and actually prefer the RS1 or older Ela in my room, not yet heard the RX range

PMC twenty.23s are a very good speaker and worth a look. I once tried some Rega speakers -RS5 I believe - at home and they had so much bass it was untrue. But speakers are very room dependent and those mentioned above might be great in your room.

I'm in the same boat, recently upgraded from UL to a U2 and am currently running 685s2, has a demo on some PMC 20.23's yesterday and was swayed then came home after collecting my new speaker cable and listened to my currents speakers and decided to hold out.

if anyone wants some ex demo 20.23 speakers let me know.
