iPad app ...

Posted by: Vernon S on 15 December 2015

I'm sure there have been many posts on this subject, but I'm brand new here (just joined today) and this is my first post so be nice please! I have had an ND5-XS for about 3 years now, and never any problems with it until the firmware update a few days ago. Initially it was great as I now have access to Tidal, but yesterday I lost communication with the iPad Naim App. All it now says is "Set up a new mu-so" and "Find my rooms" ... neither of which do anything for me at all. I have tried rebooting the ND5, removing and reinstalling the iPad app, manually adding a "room" with the ND5's IP address, all to no avail. The streamer itself is working fine when I make selections (iRadio, uPnP) via the front panel, but no good with the app. I am on a hard-wired gigabit network as we previously established that wifi was not a good way to go for 192k stuff, it's a big house and the wifi coverage is not that great.

Any thoughts O wise ones (and everyone else too )??

Thanks

Try to hard exit the app by swiping it out of the history of the ipad. Then restart it.

Also you could try to turn  off and on the streamer. Or any other device on your way from the ipad to the streamer like routers or access points.

gert,

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately I tried all those things and still no good. I also just tried removing the hard-wire and using the wireless network, still no good. Grrrrrr.

Have you tried rebooting your NAS ?

First try rebooting the iPad.

If that doesn't restore normal service, reboot the entire network: Shut down your iPad, ND5 XS, NAS Wireless Router and switch, then restart them.  Make sure the NAS, router and switch are up and running before restarting the streamer and iPad.

...........  in addition to all Huge suggestions,  you really are better to restart systematically to avoid the possibility of a fragmented network
Leave the router off for 15 minutes to (this allows the ISP hardware to recognise that the router has gone offline
Restart the system in the following order
  1. Wireless router - let it complete its start process, then wait 5-10 minutes to be recognised by ISP
  2. NAS - let it complete its full start process
  3. Network player
  4. LAN switch (if fitted) …. the Network player should now find the network but may need some manual help with the front panel buttons.
  5. Control Device – good idea to reset or even delete & re-install the app as part of this process.

Finally,  is the system all set for DHCP  ??  It is best to have DHCP with simple small home networks as a minor error with fixed (static) IP addresses can cause it all to be in a bad place.   -  I'm wondering this as your app seems to be not finding the Naim IP (& MAC) address.

The fact that it plays via the front panel suggests that the IP address etc are ok, and that the network is working ok. Presumably the iPad can access the Internet - it's worth checking.

Loading new firmware can sometimes swap you from fixed IP to DHCP, and the music can stop. Normally, if the app locks up a simple switch off and on of the streamer fixes things if a reset of the app fails.

Under 'other settings' in the app there is a 'reset app' option. It may be worth a look.

That was my thinking too ... I've tried resetting all network components as suggested by Huge and Mike-B and others (thanks guys), but still no change. Double-grrrr. I was thinking about that reset option on the app, but I can't get beyond the "no rooms found" stuff to get to the options. Has anyone tried using other control apps? I am using JRiver on a PC for the server, very pleased with that. I heard that they have an app for the iPad, any thoughts anyone?

Thanks for all of your input folks!

Just try one more time - remove the app completely. Restart the streamer. Load a new copy of the app.

Your iPad can get to the Internet, can't it?

Also, have a look at Phil Harris's thread in the featured topics on the streaming forum (called Spotify, app and something or other) and get the net analyser app. It may be a bonjour issue. If the streamer doesn't show the bonjour icon vis the analyser app, the Naim app won't be able to see it.

Sorry, I should have answered that question the first time you asked it  ... yes, the iPad is online fine. I have made some progress ... adding the "room" manually via IP address works now (it didn't before), and that let me connect and reset the iPad app. So it's now all working with my manual room, which leads me to think that there is a network discovery issue (gotta love Window 10!) ...

Thanks all for your help, I think this is working (enough) now for me not to waste any more of y'all's time - I am a Brit living in Texas so please excuse the occasional localism while I try to integrate into the culture

Cheers,

Vernon.

So long as you don't go too local and vote for Trump, all is well! Glad it's sorted. Do gave a look at Phil's thread though, it would be good to eliminate the issue. It should pootle along for months without a problem.
