Roon.

Does anybody know if Naim wants to implement Roon labs into their systems. I desperate want to use Roon, but cannot use it as an endpoint with the Naim.
Noted ! Thanks again.

Roon will quite quickly (relatively) scan all your files, applying meta-data etc.
There is also a background scan that analyses the files for volume normalisation / cross-fade etc. This then gives a graphical indication of the audio file as it plays as per post

For such a little thing I find this liberating as I can often pick some music and be unhappy with the sound. Acoutsica nervossa starts thinking things like do I need ferrite rings, new Ethernet cable etc. Now predominantly when I'm unhappy with the sound the graphic shows a straight line top and bottom of the audio file.
Roon is great. it would be a shame if Naim can't (or wont ) integrate it.

Ick, no. Roon is clever, but not for me. Firstly, it's real strength is it's metadata and clickability . . . but when I sit down to listen to music I want to listen to music, not read about it. Secondly it's just not finished; the Android app is a horrid thing, and there are weird limitations, such as not being able to play different tracks to different endpoints at the same time. Not to mention the downright bizarre licensing arrangement, which means no-one else can use it when I go to work. And then there's the price, which is mad . . . I have to pay the same for Tidal, which has a huge library of actual music, as for Roon, which is a thin layer of metadata and some clever control software. Not going to happen. Apps like 8player do much of the same thing for free.
Naim - don't do it.
Obviously not for you then!
Some of the "limitations" you quote are undoubtedly due to you set up, as certainly my wife or children hare no issue listening when I'm at work and they all can listen to different music.
It's probably a Marmite product, the pendulum swinging from people like me who already can't imagine life without it and they " pay for sumat I could get for free " brigade.
I would agree it's not finished yet though, that's the real exciting part, they are so open to user input. 1.2 is going to focus on sound quality for Roon Bridge ( the connection to Roon certified end points) and the next will be a major overhaul of metadata options. So never say never!
For me Roon is finally the promise of hard disk music collections becoming fulfilled.

Why would you want Naim to deny others the Roon opportunity just because you don't want it ? It wouldn't affect you in any way. As for your opinion on price and functionality, I don't share it.
This forum is, to some extent, a way for Naim to understand the needs of its users. There are some clear examples where Naim has responded to the strength of feeling in the forum. But Naim has only limited resources, so if they invest in one thing, they can't invest in another. For me, Roon is clever and useful in certain set-ups, but not a requirement - I don't believe the world needs another proprietary music interface. So I'd rather Naim invested in DAC technology to beat the best than Roon.
It could be that the extra customers Naim might pick up by implementing Roon would allow extra investment in other developments. Roon isn't just another music interface as it's aiming to offer a more robust and fully featured alternative to UPnP/DLNA. The interface is the best I've seen though, and I'm playing things from my library I'd all but forgotten about.
I'm not to keen on Marmite, but am definitely a Roon fan.
I HAVE HEARD A DIRECT HEAD ON, ONE TO ONE LISTENING SESSION FROM A NATIVE MUSIC SYSTEM, OF ANOTHER VENDOR, WHICH WAS SUPERB TO THE ADDITION TO ROON. NO COMPARISON !
THE ROON ADDED , OR I SHOUD SAY DETRACTED FROM THE BASS, THE MID-RANGE, THE SOUND STAGE AND DEPTH OF FIELD. IT was immediate, apparent, and sort of surprising to all 4 people in the room at the time. Standard Flac or WAV file, and it was an immediate reaction to the downgrade. Not saying it was bad, just less than the file playing off the resident music streamer! The GUI is pretty, maybe one of the better one, but personally , not for me, and I am making sure it is stripped off latest software update of my machine. (Yes, I have an HDX, and no, it's not an HDX).
How odd.
Roon is completely transparent, so there is another problem in the chain somewhere there. The Roon forum is the place to give full details of setup and find the cause.
Yes, something odd. I didn't fully understand your post, so were you listening through identical equipment?
Using a DAC, I could hear no difference between Roon and JRiver. Through my SuperUniti, there is a small difference between streaming using a wired ethernet connection (with MinimServer as the UPnP server), and playing Roon through the optical output on my MacBook Pro to the optical in of the SU. But this difference is also noticeable with JRiver.
This sounds like however the system was set up was at fault. I do except that some people may find slight differences as I really do not believe that anything is absolutely transparent - but there are so many people using it, if the differences where as huge as you suggest - well no one will be buying it would they?
Your demo was probably similar to judging a new 4K TV by watching a video cassette through it.
