System Pics 2016

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Quite a few updates to my system since the beginning of 2015.

- Naim CDX2 replaced  Naim CDI.

- Naim NDX replaced Logitech Squeezebox Touch & Beresford Caiman DAC (which have gone into my Headphone system).

- Focal Electra 1028 Be replaced Epos ES-14.

- Purchase of Audiophile Base Starbase rack from a family friend (last weekend, hence the pictures just after build).

Paul.

 - Note: I am trying to add pictures but for some reason I am unable to link Photobucket images which used to work and when I try and upload pictures via this post I just get an error - can anyone help please

Click the "Direct" link on the right side of the pic in photobucket with the left mouse button.

Then open the small icon at the center of the reply tools bar on forum's reply box. Paste the link.

We are ready.

Thank you, yes they were the first speaker I heard which did all of the great things that the Epos did but with much much more.

Nicely dressed mains cable !

Wish I could say the same for my rabbit warren .  Ten mains cables (8 of which are Powerline) wandering around behind three Fraim stacks, fighting 8 burndies, a hi-line, 4 super Lumia, 2 Chord Sarum & an Indigo, a DC1, a couple of SNAICs and a few regular analogue interconnects for floor space (or hanging space)

The Lord knows how to 'dress' this lot, but He hasn't let me in on the plan yet.  But at least I know all my signal cables are the right way round because my music comes out forwards, not backwards

Being a ProAcolyte (ha - I just cracked myself up) I am interested to know which model you have.  And what are you using underneath them to protect the floor?

Hi Dr,

This is the Studio 148.

To protect the floor I went to Home Depot and Office Depot. Home Depot for the 1'' granite square and Office Depot for the 1'' cork square (usuall boards to pin notes).  On the floor you see cork granite cork but I once had more layer with my older speaker cause they were lower. The more layers the better it sounded in my room because its suspended wood floor.

Beneath the superuniti I didnt want it to slip so there are small rubber protector stick under granite at the corners then cork again to damper. Cork is an excellent anti-vibration anti-static materiel and very cheap. It does slip just enough to stick there but not too much to be able to move the speaker easily.

The 148 I'll add is meant for large rooms and has rich dense sound. You may prefer the d18 or d20 if you like very clean hifi sound. None is better I prefer the 148 thats all.

I have been meaning to post this for a while as a house move is in the offing. If my house move does go ahead there may have to be some rethinking - a different space and solid floors. There may not be space for the Harbeths to breathe, but I hope to be able to keep system away from heat sources. Record and CD storage will be another hurdle. No comments on cable dressing or fairy dust, please.

Some new stuff 2015 and 2016 has started well also with the addition of Melco N1Z. Sonority shelves, Sarum become Super and of course Kudos Titan 808 replaced Ovator 600 who found another owner (a good friend now takes care of them). Picture is before the Melco arrived but for now...

I've now made the final tweak to the system - longer legs for the SVT to prevent the wires dangling on the floor. It doesn't look quite as neat and compact, but it sounds a lot better.

Thx Mark, they sound quite ok also...:-)

Still looks very neat to me, Nigel.  Very harmonious domestically as well as sonically.

Congratulations on the 808's Jonas. They look great. Another envious '88' owner here.

You have a lot more to come as the Titanic transducers run in and Sheik Yerbouti.

Enjoy.

John.

Hi John, they have been going now for a couple of hundred hours, still haven't decided on best position in the room but to be honest they sound fantastic no matter how I position them.

Probably could put them on top on each other and still they would be the best speaker I ever had listen to..,

Very nice Jonas. Those speakers looks great and the sound must be something rather special.

Posted on: 29 January 2016 by Jonas Olofsson

Hi Magnus, thank you. The "kudos-combination" of full range and tonality is something quite extra I would say.

I was surprised that I preferred Super 20 to Ovator 600. Titans is another step up or ten of course...

I like this configuration, looks great, with the exception of that snakes wedding underneath! You need told!

Wedding? That looks like a full-blown orgy to me.

Don't spoil their fun! I have been expecting to move house for a few months now so I have left getting the mains supply sorted out. They are all mains cables (apart from the TV aerial cable) so the real problem there is the speaker cable's proximity. It looks better behind the Hutter but the advantage of not having high stacks is countered by the difficulty of getting burndies to hang free.
