System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Curious, what did your DR upgrade, bring to The Party, as it relates to speed, spacing, and noise?

Excuse my spelling!
Sorry to be late in coming back, I was out all day yesterday.
I hope you will understand when I say that I'm afraid I try and avoid Hi-Fi speak in relation to how systems sound, it's why I don't tend to read the reviews in Hi-Fi mags, I don't understand what they are talking about half the time. Suffice it to say the DR upgrade to my ears , albeit that it is early days, has added significantly to the sound stage and presence together with the quality of the bass which is considerably tighter than the old 250.
I listen to quite a bit of Chamber Music and when attending a concert some years ago I was almost laughing out loud at the realisation of how far my system had to go to match the sound quality of the live music. Suffice it to say that the DR upgrade moves the system significantly along the road to achieving that, as many have said it is certainly not a marginal improvement.
Go and get a dem and hear for yourself, much better than my, probably flawed, judgements!

I hadn't realised that there were opposite sex DBLs - it's not a phase is it?

Beautiful system, Fabio, totally my cup of tea!
Granted posted:I only use the ipad for operating the HDX player and computer for email and internet searching. I tried to get the photobucket app you advised on the ipad and got all sorts of apps with photo in it but nothing about photobucket! I also seem, to have now got to give a password each time I open the Ipad?? I would have liked to have shown my set up and where it is housed but I fear I am too dumb to get this out to the forum! I would ask my daughter to do it but she lives in Switzerland!
The photo bucket app doesn't show up when you search the App Store in an ipad unless you select "iphone only" on the left hand side of the top bar in the search results page. If you use Photobucket as the search term then the one you want should be the top left hand app. It's called Photobucket backup and print store, or at least I guess this is the one that HungryHalibut meant you to try. The App Store lists it as iPhone only but if you read the notes, it says it's fine for iPad too. It's an Apple oddity that apps that work on all devices don't show up unless you select iPhone only. When you select it for Install, the App Store may ask you for your iTunes or Apple password. It's probably asking you every time you open your iPad because you haven't put it in yet. It shouldn't ask for it in normal use.
i hope this helps.
best
David

This is where the Forum is worth it's weight in Gold!
Here in the US, Naim isn't as popular as Europe! Hard to find an Authorized Naim dealer that caries Naim Amps, less known demo them out to one's home!
Nothing like an honest opinion from those who are on similar paths. Thanks!
On closing, one more thing have you notice that your System have quieted down?
I don't quite understand that hi fi rhetoric either!
""‘A very low-noise voltage reference – a “sub-surface” zener diode – is connected to the amplifier’s non-inverting input and fed, via a constant current source, from the regulator output rather than the regulator input. Feedback ensures the DR exerts tight control over the output voltage.’
The result is a power supply Naim claims is 30 times quieter than that of the previous NAP 250, with separate supplies used for each channel in the NAP 250 DR, as in the NAP 300 DR and NAP 500 DR.""
That's it thanks for your honest reply!
Enjoy you Active System, BTW, I think your 3 250,s will out perform 1 500.
But what do I know!
The Armchair QB! Thanks ![]()

Thank you DrMark.
On the floor there is a cheap DVD player (30 eur) that I use as a CD transport connected to the NDAC. It's rarely used, less than once a month. I have ripped all my CDs, so, when my previuos transport stopped working, I didn't feel the need to buy a decent new one.
I have been of a similar mindset; I current have a CD5X powered by a FC2X that I essentially never use, and I also have an Arcam DVD player on the system. Since CD would only be used in the event of a NAS/streaming breakdown as a temporary stop gap measure, I have thought to sell the 2 while there is still some value, keep the Arcam for the aforementioned emergency backup (as well as regular DVD service) and put the money from the sale towards the upgrades I seek.
How do you quote posts in the new system? I seem to have lost this ability.
Click on 'Take action' and select 'Reply With Quote'.

Yes indeed, when I first saw the 'Take Action' button I was nervous about clicking on it. It could have a more inviting name. Suggestions on a postcard.
How about 'Click Me Big Boy'. Sorry, waaay too sexist, but it is late!

Nice room! I start noticing those are acoustic panels on the wall? I was going through the posts and noticed that quite a few of you here have them on the wall. They look gorgeous! And I am looking for something to improve my room acoustics. May I know the brand? Can you order them online? Thanks for the help.

Not trying to respond for Zipperheadbanjo, but I recognize them as "Vicoustic Wavewoods". I've got a few in cherry in my room.
Thanks for the assist Joe :-)
Ok... so it's abit more complicated. The corner bass traps are Vicoustic. Great Product.
The side wall panels are actually made by a local acoustic engineer (Toronto). They are more standard acoustic panels (same as the grey ones on the wall), but with a plywood face. Essentially a Vicoustic "knock off"... but better made.
Can't go wrong with actual Vicoustic though... they make a great product that is easy to install.
ZHB, what are the measurements of that room? (I can't recall if I asked that before....but then, I can't recall where I put my keys either...)

Not entirely on topic ... but there is an interesting piece on the Eames chair on BBC News Magazine -- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35328524
ZHB,
it's not probably a very original suggestion, but with that gorgeous Eames chair you'd probably need these:

M.
Perhaps some Salvador Dali on the walls too?

The room is approx. 12.5 feet x 13 feet x 9 feet ceilings. 2 of the walls are stone / plaster, 2 are drywall. Floor is suspended wood.
From a technical perspective the room is pretty much an acoustic disaster, however it is quite effectively managed using the acoustic treatments currently in place. Sounds great to my ears, and a very big improvement over my last listening space, which had theoretically better dimensions from an acoustic perspective, but was not treated at all (with the excception of some comfy furniture and strategically placed large plants).
Currently I'm struggling with the question of would a pair of Sopra 2's work in the room. I really don't want to be one of those people with insanely large speakers in a small space... but might have to home demo and find out for myself. As my son would say... 1st world problem.
