System Pics 2016

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Haven´t been posting for some time (some years), I would like to share some pictures of my new built room with my "minimalistic" system. NDX, 552, 500, Neate Motive SX3. Even my wife likes it! Source first! Maybe the tallest Fraim, 2,5 metres up? /Ulrik

I can see why she would like it It's the marble top table...

How do you cool your system???

Posted on: 15 February 2016 by ULRIKL

I have 4 valves over the stack and a silent computer fan that keeps the air moving. The air goes out on the side of the wardrobes. Works really well. I have used this system in my Naimnet system where I have built in NNP02 in the ceiling with a small fan always ventilating.

Must have been scary lifting a NAP500 up that high. I'd want scaffolding and a cherry picker or something like that.

Regards

Mark

It was scary! The ladder was not as rigid as I thought! I hope I don´t have to take it down for a while .... Think it can be even more scary...

Compared to many on this thread my system is modest, but I love it!

NAC-N 272

NAP 250DR

Non-naim psu

ATC SCM 40

Have you compared with the nahm psu?

I have and the Naim XPS DR trounces it. More heft and sense of reality to the music.

I have heard both and to my ears at the time they were very close although I've not been able to directly compare in my system.

That said the decision was financial as I just couldn't stretch to the XPS but it's on the agenda for the future.

Very clever! May I ask, who makes those wall brackets?

Hi ULRIKL - I am assuming you don't have earthquakes in your part of the world. Had a 5.7 mag quake here (NZ) 2 days ago - with a setup like that the 500 would be a lethal weapon.

Mark:

I had a local blacksmith make them after my drawings. They are very rigid.

Johng:

Now earthquakeas here, but it was a good point!

Ulrik, lovely minimalist system :-) Would it be convenient to please show some close up images of the custom wall brackets? Plus, how do the Neat's sounds so close to the rear wall with their rear ports?

Some excellent systems appearing this year, old and new.  Here's my small slice of listening paradise, brought on considerably in the last few months, by the addition of the NDS.  Now NDS, 555 (non DR), 282, Supercap DR, 200, Allaes.  Sounding pretty great to these ears!

Hi Yetizone!

Thank you! The Neats sounds very good! As you can understand I haven´t had the possibility to move them around, so I have to stick with the distans 12 cm from the rear wall. The amps keeping them in very good control so I am really happy with the performance. / Ulrik

Beautifully done :-) Interesting that the ported Neat's work well against the rear wall.

Ah, custom made! They do look very rigid and well designed.

I suspect a 552/500 should have no problem keeping those Neats under control!

Thanks for your reply.

Thank you! Yes the 500 combo don't let them do anything without permission! /Ulrik

Thank you Ulrik, as is yours.  Those Neats must sound sublime on the end of the 552/500.  Love the way you have discreetly wired your speakers.

There you go. Not completely happy with the sound to be honest, but that's a topic for a different thread. In any case, it looks great!

Ha! A Telenet Digicorder!! Finally a belgian household ;o)

If you think it doesn't sound right try placing your speakers along the short side of your room....

Busted! I think I've seen one more Digicorder in a System Pics thread (maybe yours?). The (only) good thing with it is that it's got green LCD characters that match well with NAIM!

I'm pretty sure the acoustics would work much better in the other direction, and the larger distance between speakers and listening position would help as well. I considered this when I moved in, but then the rest of the room wouldn't really function properly as a living room. So, unfortunately, a compromise had to be made...

Is that K20? A5 was a good step up when I made the move with a 150x, esp. in bottom end. Won't help the RFI jungle, but then a fair number of us must count as at least amateur tropical horticulturalists
