System Pics 2016

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Is that K20? A5 was a good step up when I made the move with a 150x, esp. in bottom end. Won't help the RFI jungle, but then a fair number of us must count as at least amateur tropical horticulturalists

Yep, K20 it is. I might try A5 at some point if I find second hand at proper length. However, when I replaced my original Inakustik speaker cables with K20 I couldn't tell if there was any difference, so I am not sure my cloth ears can appreciate the difference!

Once I find some free time, I will post a separate topic with my issues, as I do not want to pester this thread which should be about photos!

Many thanks for all the advice so far in any case!

Hi Yetizone!

Thank you! The Neats sounds very good! As you can understand I haven´t had the possibility to move them around, so I have to stick with the distans 12 cm from the rear wall. The amps keeping them in very good control so I am really happy with the performance. / Ulrik

ULRIKL, I love the look of your white speakers on these white shelfs.

What spikes do you use? And did you compare different models?

P. Thank you!

I got the spikes from Neat and I have not tried different ones.

Some excellent systems appearing this year, old and new.  Here's my small slice of listening paradise, brought on considerably in the last few months, by the addition of the NDS.  Now NDS, 555 (non DR), 282, Supercap DR, 200, Allaes.  Sounding pretty great to these ears!

Black Fraim is the nicest imho. It has a 'stealth' quality which sets it apart from trying to be furniture.

Lovely.

If you don't mind me asking - what method do you use to post photos on the forum? I ask because virtually all photos are invisible to me since the last forum re-vamp, but I can see yours.

Chris

ps nice looking system...

Thanks for the appreciative comments  I'm just looking forward to it all bedding in!

@chrissu - I put my images on a web space I host and then just link the images using the insert/edit image facility to insert a URL. Easy really.

My new XPS2 DR landed on Saturday - so far very happy with what it brings to the party. Slotted nicely into place in the planned space in my rack

Guess it will take a little while to come on song completely like the demo model I borrowed from my dealer a couple of months back, but Im enjoying it so far.

Not sure my photos can live up to the high standards of pretty much all of the recent System Pics, but here we go anyway:

As I mentioned before, 3 boxes and cable dressing starts to become a challenge. I honestly dont know how you guys with many boxes manage to get all the cables in good order!

My man cave, or corner at least.

And yes, it´s an LP 12 on top.

Very nice Gunnar - how do you find the Totems ?

Posted on: 23 February 2016 by "Floyd"

LP 12 it is.

Hi James. The Neat Elite I used before did not work well in my room. Too much bass.

Totem Mod 1 Sign is an amazing speaker, works really well with the SN 2, AND in my room.

And they gives me what we in Sweden call "ståpäls"

Not been successful in uploading previously, but I'll give it another go. Here's my 252DR/250.2 with the power amp booked in for DR upgrade at the end of March. Newest and excellent upgrade was to Tellurium Q ultra black speaker cables. Speakers are Devore Gibbon Nines, and that's a Luxman DAC.

Best, John

Well this is my new system.

When I started to think about getting something a bit better than my old Naim 5 series set up, about a year ago, I expected to end up with something like a Nac282 or 272 with a Nap 250, but after a fair amount of faffing & a lot of listening I end up with a Classe amp!

Currently I am still using my old B&W 805S speakers, but they will probably change sometime in the next year.

I still use Nac A5 so I am not completely Naimless.

how is the integration of the sound overall ?

what genre of music do you listen to ?

I always wanted to have one of the Totems but its very hard to get here in India.

DRMARK: Thanx, the sky, or in this case the ceiling is the limit

MPW: I´ve been listening to Mod 1 at my dealer since 1995. Different amplifiers, mostly Naim, Roksan and Metronome.

20 years later my dealer sends me home with Mod 1 Sign. (demoex) "Just try them, it will just cost you some miles with your SAAB"

So, now I did spend some more then just the gas. But no regrets.

Bass is tunefull and for such a small monitor really deep. As I listen to mostly rock-ish music, I can hear/feel the drummer and

the bassplayer smiling and just do their thing.  Vinnie Colaiuta and Tal Wilkenfeld for example.

Midrange is exellent, brings out some tears now and then. And with the SN 2 in the other end of the Naca 5, well it´s

just keeps my feets happy.

Music, well almost everything but rap.

Just remember, they need heavy stands and good amplification. And a poor recording sounds just like that.

My room is 8 m x 4,5 m.

Best regards

Gunnar

Thank you Gunnar..

appreciate your reply.

I have liked the business like but squarish shape of the Totem Model One Signature edition..

I heard it once with a marantz and i know the amp was having a hard time to provide the speaker with enough juice. These need quality amp;lification.

Maybe someday.... i will have try the Totem Model 1 Signature ( after i have retired my Merlin TSM )

Actually there are a few others like the Reference De capo , ATC SCM 11 on my wish list... as well so maybe rotate them for 4 years each

ha ha ha...

Just want to share my little system here. Small bedrooms in Hong Kong so it's hard to place too many boxes and keep stacking them up the pile.

This is my relatively small system compare to everyone's else here.  But I am happy with it. Work in progress to get the best out of it.

Nice system Nic - refreshing to see KFE LS50's in white for a change :-) and, just curious how do they perform close to the wall with the rear port?
