System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

For a bit of fun, streaming via U/Serve via NDX through 1962 Philips AG-9016 valve amp (just about 1watt into the 8ohm load of my Mission 731 stand mounts). Sounds surprisingly good!

I suspect the tree will be moved to the garden pending removal around March.
Enjoy your Allae's Naim Gary, I've owned my pair for over 13 years since new and I always forget to list them but make no mistake once Allae's are setup correctly they give a great performance.
You probably know this already but make sure the base is set so the Allae's gently rock front to back, main drivers are nipped up and you are ready to go.
I set mine with a slight toe in and 8 inch from the back wall, that its ![]()
Thanks HiFi man. I had my Intros with my Naim gear for 15 years and they were really enjoyable in my system and in the various rooms I had them in over that time. Some months ago I changed out my 72 for an 82 and my HiCap for a SuperCap and then for the first time in all the years that I have had Naim gear I wasn't happy with the sound. I did all the usual things to shift it and it helped a bit but it still wasn't what I was looking for.
I had my dealer bring over a pair of Allaes that he had and leave them with me for a while. Astounding. Everything I was missing was back and then there was a lot in addition that I had never heard in my house. Even my partner took notice and she said while I was in the decision phase - "We should definitely keep these. They sound great and I really love the way they look in the room."
It is always a nice bonus when you have the "WAF" present.
Once again now I am in that wonderful phase of wanting to go back and listen to all my music to hear what's there. I do not tend to upgrade very often but this year has been a banner year of change and everything is sounding amazing.
Gary

Nice looking room and gear Serge. I like how you've seamlessly integrated vintage Naim, Fraim and Ikea in the same room. Good job!
Thanks for the help, now my favourite system will be seen by the whole world.
And wonderful it looks too. It's great to see Naim systems from so many places in the world - people united in listening to music on great systems.
Listening to Rzewski's The People United Will Never Be Defeated has put me in this United frame of mind!
A seriously good looking system there Sergey! Those SL2s have such a deep, rich, warm colour + Fraim to match. Thank you for sharing. Best regards, FT
Sergey, i remeber you were struggling with a black Naim system, have you changed all your gear into olive ones? I'm asking because besides a CDS3 i'm using now, i've also chosen "olive path"...
Best from Poland
Olive. It's the new black!
Olive may be the new black but high gloss white Naim boxes with high gloss white speakers could look cool!

All is true! At you good memory, my friend from Poland. I have replaced all black Naim in structure 282/250/Supercap2-DR/NDS/555PS-DR. And I very much like mine Olive system, plays in my opinion more interesting the former.
Here a photo black Naim system:

Fresh photos of my system following yesterday’s installation of my new 300DR. 2015 has seen a few improvements: bamboo top shelves and bronze spikes on the racks; Super Lumina full loom; DR upgrade to the SuperCap; firmware upgrade on the nDAC; and now 300DR replacing my much-loved 250.2. I think 2016 is going to be a quieter year in which I’m going to just luxuriate in what to my ears is a now gloriously performing system. ![]()

Dear Mike, apart a wonderful system, where you bought the fantastic candlestick?

Thanks, bicela. If I remember rightly the candle stick was purchased from a shop called The Pier but the company, which had a chain of outlets, went bust some years back.

Thanks Mike, very pity. I will looking in internet anyway. Have a pleasant evening.
I wasn't going to bother with a standard shot of the boxes, but now that Mike's posted a picture of his black bamboo I thought I'd add one of the standard version by way of contrast. The bamboo SVT, with the upgrade spikes, is really extraordinarily good.

Yes. The natural bamboo SVT complements the black columns and boxes very well.

Thanks Mike,
I really like your system too, although we agree to disagree on the 252 ![]()
I haven't DR upgraded the Supercap or the 300 and I don't have SL cables. Any thoughts on what you would do first?

Hi, Keith. In my system the performance lift from each of the Super Lumina cables was bigger than DR upgrade to my SuperCap. What we'll easily agree on is the 252 is more revealing than the 282 so I suspect you would hear a bigger improvement still. So I think I would start with the SL interconnect, then the speaker cables and lastly the Din XLR (I know you'll need two of the XLRs as I've just had to trade in my single XLR for a pair as a consequence of getting the 300DR).
To be honest I've not heard a nonDR 300 so can't say how big an improvement the DR version is over it but I'm prepared to believe others when they say it is significant. Problem is, as I found with my SuperCap DR upgrade, is living without the 300 for four or five weeks while it is done.
