System Pics 2016

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Bit of rearranging this afternoon.  Speakers on the long wall now firing across the room.  Listening position much closer to them now and forming more of an equilateral triangle.  Sounds more focused.  Will have to figure the best way to route the speaker cable way behind the wood burner (and save up for some fancy shoes!)

That's a lovely big room; I'm most envious! Ours is only 3.6m wide, with the speakers firing across. One thing for you to try: see how it sounds without the large table, which can cause nasty reflections. We have an upholstered footstool, which is better for the sound and more comfy on our poor old feet. We also have trunking behind the hearth, but that would mean you removing and replacing yours, which wouldn't be cheap.

It's cold and it's gonna get colder .. Get those fires on.

The problem with big rooms is that you have to fill them with "stuff". This one is around 8x7m. The coffee table certainly reverberates on certain tracks.  I'll experiment  moving the table when "the coast is clear".  I doubt if it would meet the WAF though.  I have eyed your upholstered footstool enviously in the past !  Looks v comfy indeed.

Looks perfect in the view of your listening space...if I was listening in your room I'd like the lights dimmed and some candles lit.

Dumb question - can that ladder swing out to clear the speakers for access between?  (I imagine that's how it works.)

What did you use under the speakers on your floor?

Very nice room and setup - I kind of like the no hi-fi rack way you have it.

many beautiful audio setups here

Thanks guys.

To answer the questions in one go:

  • Yes - the lights dim and adjust
  • The ladder is movable on the chrome railing, so books can be accessed
  • Speaker spikes rest on some left-over metal 'feet' from my old audio rack

My S-400s were Zebrano, too. Lovely finish, in direct light a delicate reddish shade comes out. Beautiful room.

All this Ovator love: before it was announced they were for the chop there was very little mention of them. As Joni would have said...... You don't know what you've got till it's gone.

I've always thought they look lovely, and on occasions have been tempted to try them, but no.

Like others, I think that's a superb picture.  I've never heard 400s but they certainly look classy.

I actually got mine about two months ago - before the annoucement. They've finally settled down - took ages to run in.
