System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Alco, thanks for taking the time to reply and your view on the two champ shoe box amps ![]()
On another note I love the look of the Harbeth 40 above.

Nice Harbeth combination with Naim Audio. This is the 1st for me to notice the majestic 40.2 and the Naim Audio gears. I have the NDX / SN2 and Harbeth C7. My future goal is to have the SHL5 Plus and move my C7 to my bed room. The 40.2 is way to big for my small basement audio room. I would like to know which Naim amp / gears are you using to drive the 40.2 and how does it sound? Have you compare you Naim Audio driving Harbeth compare to Tube amp? I would like to get some person feed back on this Naim vs Tube on Harbeth. Thanks. Enjoy the most wonderful human voice speaker in the world....that's my take on this remarkable speaker brand.
What a beautiful combination. I would love to sit inside this room listening to music whole day.
My Harbeth is C7ES3 powered by Nac282/HCDR/Nap250.2 absolutely musical in every aspect. Partnering Harbeth with Tubes are not my cup of tea, tend to find it too gentle, lay back and warm. When partner with Naim electronics, Harbeth becomes lively & lots of grips while maintaining its majestic mid-range.
Thanks Mikapoh for your update and feedback on personal experience on Harbeth and Naim combination. That is in line with what I noticed when I borrowed a KT88 int. amp home to benchmark against Naim and C7. Mind you that many folks on Naim forum also commented that Naim is too "polite" but musical. This of course is personal taste. I prefer to have the "polite" speaker but can do the "majestic" mid range since I truly enjoy the femal vocal from Harbeth, and willing to take a little less bass from Harbeth as well. There is no perfect speaker out there, you have to choose your ice cream toppings, and you cannot have everything in this world. If so, we would ended up with so many wives. ![]()
Now, since I will not save up for int tube amp as my second toy gear, I will save up for SuperCAP DR to add some muscle to my NDX. Thanks. Enjoy your Harbeth. Oh, have you audition the new SHL5 Plus, and if so, do you have plan to upgrade your C7? If not, why not? Is it the C7 offer more "sweet" spot with its mid range? Just asking for more data point on my own.

Power supplies for the NDX are: XPS DR and 555DR. SuperCap is for powering pre-amps etc..

Fully awake here in Poland
I can strongly recommend 555PS with NDX - testing one one and will probably place an order with my 'long suffering' dealer soon. Soon meaning - as soon as he remembers that I have his power supply at home on demo

Your comment put a smile on my face when you said that you were willing to take a little bass from Harbeth - This is certainly not true with the Harbeth 40.2, there is real tight bass with 12" bass units.

The Harbeth 40.2 is my new pair of speakers. Saxophones, strings, voices sound very natural with amazing details, it replaces my old trusty Dynaudio Contour S 5.4 as shown below. These photos were taken on a dull El Nino rainy day in California, best day to stay inside with a glass of beer.
Ouch, don't take this the wrong way, but I twinged when I saw your "upgrade".

Just curious - why twinged? ![]()
Just a personal thing, but I much prefer the Dynaudio sound to the Harbeth's presentation. Both are very fine speakers.

Your comment on choice of speakers has certainly echoed my sentiment. Speakers are very personal thing and most of all it is all about compromising. There is no perfect speakers in this world in fact the world itself is not perfect. Having said this, I have recently had a chance to listen to a pair of Dynaudio powered by Nac252/Nap300DR and came away very impressed but I guess it is not a surprise you swapped them for a pair of M40.2. I have auditioned SHL5 plus and M30.1 although not with Naim electronics, they both are excellent speakers though. I am sticking to my C7ES3 for its less footprint in my small room. And yes, C7ES3 has the most attacking sound in the whole Harbeth range ![]()

I was thinking about these two set of speakers for a long time (but really not too long if you see what mean), but finally I decided to let the Dynaudio go (with some pains).
Your decision had to be a very hard one, as both speakers have their strengths. Curious as to why you chose the Harbeths. What did they do that you felt bettered the Dyns. Did you look into the Confidence line?
Both are good, the Harbeth, to my ears, sounds slightly more details, more natural whereas the Dynaudio sounds more weighty, but more hifi (in a relative term of course). In the end, my wife said it was the Harbeth, although she prefers the elegant look of the Dynaudio.

Didn't plan this as system pic, but you can in fact see the green sparkle of my SN and the foot of an S600 in the background.
Winky, your system looks the dog's bo**ocks!! (Insert ll for clarity!)

That is assuming they are dogs and not bitches of course.
Lovely dogs and they seem very happy to share the bed. Nice.

This is a stunning system in a stunning room. Hopefully your couch is not touching the wall behind it to avoid unwanted reflections.
My sofa is against the wall, and has been for 24 years. Music sounds fine to me, and there is nowhere else for the sofa to go anyway.

No, the couch is standing in the middle of the room. There are 4m behind.
