System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Thanks Mike,
That's interesting. I assume the improvement you experienced was upgrading from th Hi Line, not the standard interconnect?
It's a bit of a worry that the easiest upgrade is, in your experience, the best! I had hoped that I cold avoid temptation because the next step would require me to send black boxes back to Salisbury ![]()

Yes, Keith. I upgraded from a Hi-line to SL. I opted for the Hi-line when I bought the 282 and SC and have never tried the standard interconnect. It's still in the nDAC box.

I'm enjoying listening music with this system couple of years now
I can't see a number of pics (although I can see Sergej's absolutely gorgeous rosewood SL2s). Too bad.
I have decided I'll post my system's pics when Christopher comes over and photographs it! Chris, please, plan a trip... We have a very comfortable sofa/bed for guests, and Milano is full of beautiful girls (the two things not necessarily related).
Please take your camera too!
Flatpicker posted:Hi all. First post ever of my modest system, consisting of a Supernait, Rega Apollo, Dune HD media server for the FLAC collection, and a REL sub. Stock cables, except from some custom silver foil interconnects for the Rega. NACA-5. Room is huge -- there's as much behind me as there is the shot. I'd love to pile a few more Naim boxes into the space. I'm in awe of some of what I've seen in past and current System Pics. I now have a drool bib permanently by my computer.
As you can see, we're starting to get ready for Christmas. Please ignore the big empty space on the right side of the back wall. In theory, there's another large painting on its way, though not a match for the works in the middle, which I inherited from a charming but moderately daft uncle. Also, please ignore the little thingies standing on the speakers. There was much negotiation, and the affixing of rubbery stuff on the base of each of those objects...<sigh>....
Hope y'all have a great Christmas, and a happy and healthy 2016. Auguri da Toscana!
Steve
Hi Steve,
Your system will be modest but your room is really awesome.
I' m sure it will encourage you with future upgrades.
I particulary love your sofa and beamed ceiling, the carpet looks like the one
we have in our drawing room.
In which part of Tuscany do you live ? I usually love to wander around Chianti and Val D' Orcia
hills.
Happy Christmas from Como countryside.
Roberto
My system after finally setting up the Fraim's, looks a bit tidier now ![]()

Merry Xmas and happy new year!
Oops, can't insert the photos no matter what I do.... must be missing a step here ![]()

Ciao, Roberto...e grazie!
Thanks for the compliments about our room. The sofa is Italian (of course!) and the carpet is a Mashad my wife found in Canada many years ago.
We live in Arezzo -- a very nice town indeed, though we're actually thinking about selling our place as it's far larger than we really need. I'd miss our listening space, for sure. We've not had a chance to do too much wandering recently, but maybe this summer.
I'm always thinking about future upgrades, as I suffer from SAS ("Stereo Acquisition Syndrome"). Not planning anything in the immediate future, though I do have some ideas about the weaker link(s) in my system. I'm particularly happy with my speakers, which I realized I forgot to name/describe in my original post -- I'm definitely getting old.
So, for the record: they're Fidelity Acoustics RFM-2's, purchased new from the Canadian builder in 2007 -- two-way transmission line, with ScanSpeak drivers (1" ring radiator soft dome tweeter, 1 x 5 1/4 " cone pulp/composite low frequency unit). Sensitivity is 85dB/W/m and impedance is 4 ohms nominal. The builder's design philosophy appears to share some common threads with that of the Living Voice guys, though I don't think there's any connection at all between them.
Thanks again for your comment, Roberto -- Buon Natale a voi e la vostra famiglia!
Steve
Got the new phono-pre "Decade" by Lehmann Audio and Naim Fraim in 04/2015 - since that: no change.

Maybe I try the 272/250DR in 2016, but since 8 months I´m totally in love with my 172/200 + Kudos Super10 /PV1D.
Nothing "has" to be changed... ![]()
Happy X-Mas to all of you!
Looks very nice Tom, and well done for having the patience to get the Rega wall shelf level. I bought one for my eldest son's RP1, but took it back when I realised there's no way to level it other than trial and a lot of error.
Keith
Hi Steve,
Arezzo is quite a lovely town we passed by this year going to Città di Castello and Gubbio
where i have a friend, the ceramist Gabriele Tognoloni.
It would really be a shame to sell such a beaiful house altough too big.
Tomorow i 'll post a few pics of my new Fraim stack and Xmas lights.
Nuovamente Buon Natale
Regards
Roberto
My little set up will be putting a few hours in over the festive period!
Lovely! It's good to see a Sound Factory Tripod still going strong. And Mana too. None of this fancy-pants Fraim malarkey. Proper industrial tech.
Nice room Steve! Arzezzo is one of my favourite Tuscan cities.

Lovely system! Might that be a Gibson I see standing in there so demurely?

Arezzo is really nice. We're lucky enough to be in the old town, not far from the Duomo -- everything is in walking distance. If you're ever passing through and in the neighbourhood, let me know....

Thanks mate , old school eh? the sound factory stands firm! I`ve actually just rode passed Fabriweld in Nottingham where they were made back in the day. The Mana to me is still the best for a lp12 bar none!
I bought one of the very first Tripods when Derek started making them back in 1983 or so. I was doing my PhD at Leicester at the time. The frame for the LP12 screwed onto the top level with four little screws if I remember. I never had a Mana, but did have the little Audiotech, with the extra tiny stand for the Lingo, which fitted inside the frame. Those were the days!

Thank you Steve, i'm usually in Tuscany 4-8 weeks a year, shooting (Photographically speaking).
I must be missing something here, I simply cannot insert a photo inside my replies. The little "Inset/Edit image" link does not allow me to browse for any photo files on my PC. Tried inserting the path to the file but that didn't work... Any hints?

Yes the square top section bolts into the tripod with Allen bolts, I bought this around 1988 from Derek at sound advice (a fabulous place) in Loughborough.

Unfortunately just a copy ! Which is just as well because my talent does not deserve the real thing!

Thanks for the tip, here goes another attempt at sharing my pics, hope this works:
