System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

An amazing piece of NAIM. And I'll love it till I die, period ...
Oh and the PMC's are Fan Fawking Tastic !!
Who is this Hungry Humble Halibut you speak of ? ![]()

Brilliant. Nice bric-à-brac. Could do with a tobyjug somewhere up there.

All coming together nicely. It seems the Statement do undergo high changes with further break-in. No more headaches (see old thread) even with the power factor correction devices in place. The V2 update of the Vivaldi DAC was a revelation. Pretty happy camper at the moment.
Very nice synergy between cables and rug.
Roberto,
Those Ovators S400 look very nice! I bet they sound good too. Oh to own two Naim sysems.p..

I have been to this room, the Statement sound fantastic but certainly it has potential to improve even further. Good job!

I'm always intrigued to see these top-end systems set up at home as well as at trade shows with the gear situated between the speakers. Not the optimal gear placement in my experience with lower end gear. I suspect the cabling cost comes into play and maybe the speakers are far enough forward to reduce sonic impacts to the gear?
Absolutely love this little system! Uniti 2, LP12, ITTOCK, ADIKT TRAMPOLINE & LINGO 1 with NSats.

You have to be able to see the money, as well as hear it.

Any impact from the Lingo 1 on the naim amp? I recall some folks saying the Lingo 1 is bad for Naim components.
I do not get the sideways system placement. So you know DE GUSTIBUS.
I think some users have had some sort of interference, something to do with a mains filter , but no problem here
When I had a Lingo I removed the filtered mains inlet and replaced it with the unfiltered equivalent, which gave a significant improvement for about £5.

I really like this system. Elegant simplicity and I'm willing to bet great sound as well.

For the longest time, I only had 1 row of racks with components stacked much higher. In this configuration, I have lowered the components to leave the front wall more exposed but needed 2 rows of racks to accommodate everything. With this, I plan to put up more diffusers at the front wall. I seem to prefer diffusion over absorption for some reason.
Got off my lazy bum to shoot a better quality photo of the setup :

MDFdude,
Obviously I can't speak to your room sonics or how or with whom you are approaching your acoustic room treatments, but I see from the photo you have several absorptive panels behind your speakers. Also looks like your speakers are bottom ported. Diffusion panels seem typically useful on rear walls while corner bass traps are often functional on the front wall. There is a link here that graphically describes the radiation of various frequencies from loudspeakers; bass more omnidirectional while higher frequencies are increasingly directed more towards the listener and likely to be reflected off of side and rear walls. It is an empirical approach to room treatment, but one I've found useful. If you happen to peruse the link, I'd be interested to hear what you think of the utility of that information and your experience using acoustic panels.

What is that enormous box in the middle front. Is it a power conditioner?

soon to be powered by ONE of these!
Not TWO, as this internet picture.
Hopefully next week or the week after! I am getting rather anticipatory!
ATB from George
Dear George,
I am feeling an itch, to buy ESL57s myself. Since I first heard them, in 1974, I've been charmed by their looks and concept. I could do with something else than the Quad IIs, though. And I would – god forgive me – buy two. ![]()

Honestly, what I see is a fallout shelter with €500,000 of pastime gear. At first I mistook the motive on the carpet for the shadows of hanging ropes... Cheer up, WWIII hasn't begun yet!

Yes, when i started out, I had huge corner realtrap bass traps at all 4 corners of the room & absorption panels in built in fibreglass batting all over the room. I had the local dealer import direct from the states. I suffered from lack of bass for years. A couple of years ago, I tore out all the fireglass & when mostly bare walled. Right now, I have realtraps diffusion panel lining the rear wall. Diffusion panels at the side walls for the first & second reflection points. The rest you can see the picture. Oh and the big basstraps still at the rear walls. Ancient mini bass traps at the corners of the front wall.
This still not perfect yet. I am getting a boom at probably around 60-80 hz. Perhaps I will put in bigger traps at the front wall. In the meantime, a whole bunch of Vicoutic diffusers are arriving by bus as I type this.

I will mount them at the front wall for a combination of diffusion & absorption.
Your comment on the bottom porting of my ProAcs is useful information. Thanks.

His name is Mephisto ![]()
Why do you need him? What does he do?
The Gryphon Mephisto power amp? I thought that would be surplus to your requirements currently. Mon Dieu!
