System Pics 2016

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

I frequently move my system around but it pretty much looks like this now (note I have repositioned the HC and Nac to inside the cabinet in pics 2 & 3)!

I use a UQ2 and Sondek as sources, a Nap 100 through some SBL's, and the HC and Nac 32.5 as power and pre accordingly.  The sound is goddamn awesome, not to mention the looks

Lovely, my favourite looking Naim components

My latest update. Part XS and part Classics series.

Haven't posted here for ages. CDX2, XPS2, 282, SC2, 250 into very old Rogers LS2a's. There's a sonos and arcam DAC on top of the vinyl storage. Vinyl doesn't get much of an outing these days (Michell Syncro, Stageline).

Obviously the speakers could do with changing. Tried Neat Ultimatum XLS but didn't get on with them (too cold) and haven't got round to auditioning others. Perhaps Sopra No1's would do the trick?

Nice.  And that's one hell of a music collection you've got there, David.

Lovely. Very nicely done Lewis.

Are the cupboards bespoke ? Due to a recent new arrival in the family who is now getting more mobile i'm looking to hide the hi-fi !

Now I have the Remote Control ;-).
Later comes NAP 180 and then I'm satisfied.

Get yourself an account on photobucket. If you then ensure you also install the iPad app you get more free storage space. Save you pictures through screen shot from your iPad. Upload them into photobucket and copy the direct link to the picture....

As I've just recently entered the world of streaming I thought I'd pop a couple of photos of the new Unitiqute2 into the System Pics 2016 thread. The old chrome bumper Nait2 is now temporarily powered down, but at some point in the coming weeks I may explore using the 'Qute as a source into the Nait2...

System: Unitiqute2 & MCRU No 85 Cable - NACA4 - Monitor Audio R252.

Thanks James.  No, it's a Habitat Max sideboard.  Pretty cool as it looks nice and hides everything away too  I think you can still buy them.

Nice, I like the simplicity of this, just needs an LP12 sitting at the top of the stack now!

Cool rack Yeti!

Very curious  how you get on with the Qute as a source only into the Nait...

Yes, you do need that LP12 btw !

According to the UQ2 manual the pre-amp out is 775mV & is not ideal for the Nait-2 input sensitivity which is 75mV.   It will mean the Nait-2 volume control will be backed off into the poor channel balance area & just a just a few mm from null adds way too much volume.

I feed my Nait-2 (via Supernait buffered record/tape section output) with a NAT-05 (600mV) & NDX (2.1V)  .    To overcome the volume control problem I have attenuated the Nait-2 feed by 15dB.  This has moved the normal listening position from a few notches off null (7 o’clock) to now between 9 & 10 o’clock.   SQ is so much better,  smoother & considering it’s used in a dining room, very relaxing.

When I had a Nait 2 I connected my UQ2 using a din to RCA cable at the rear, didn't really change the input trim on the UQ I just had the Nait turned up to about 12 o'clock then used the volume on the UQ to adjust it.  Old skool electronics with the convenience of modern technology!  This is how my UQ2 is currently connected to my NAC 32 / Hi-Cap also.  It works and sounds great

New SBL grills from Tom Tom audio, and trying a cherry plinth on the Sondek.  I like how it matches the SBL's but I think I will swap it back to the walnut fluted plinth as I prefer the finish.  In an ideal world i'd have two Sondeks and one fitted with each plinth, but ho hum!

Couple pf phone pics of mine, business end etc:

@ Lewis: Yes, its a nice streamlined system as it stands, but I am keen to possibly explore what the ‘Qute can do as a source alone and / or use with a power amp too. A versatile little beast.

@ Varyat: thanks The rack is a homemade unit - I’ll outline the build in another thread later.

@ Mike-B: Very helpful there Mike, I had no idea about the voltage differences between the output of the Qute and input of the Nait.

LP12? One day perhaps, although I have had one in the past (with ITTOK & Koetsu) and although I thought it very good indeed, I do have a real soft spot for Rega decks. New speakers are needed first I think

OK,  but no need to think about it,  I had overlooked the UQ2 volume control as pointed out by Lewis   -
