System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Until July this year I had never really looked at Naim. I went in to my local dealer to audition some Arcam gear but did find anything that made me want to buy it. Then he put on a CD5 XS and 172/200 combo and I was hooked. S400 Ovators have recently been added.

Hi Slim,
Same for me about 13 years ago. I had an Arcam, Audiolab, Monitor Audio system. A neighbour bought a home cinema amp and speakers from a then new dealer in Bath. I went along and found myself to be the owner of a CD5. The rest is history, as they say, so be aware that every black box whispers "I'm good aren't I, but there are others even better than me" ![]()

New rack and NAP200 for 2016.

Arezzo is really nice. We're lucky enough to be in the old town, not far from the Duomo -- everything is in walking distance. If you're ever passing through and in the neighbourhood, let me know....
Thank you Steve, i'm usually in Tuscany 4-8 weeks a year, shooting (Photographically speaking).
Then, since Nigel is sometimes in Umbria during the summer weeks, why not try to plan a mini NaimBBQ in Tuscany next summer? I can count a small number of members, including me, who could be on the premises...

I am choosing not to listen that particular voice just now, It could get me in trouble!! ![]()

You're not the only one. I can see Sergej's photos and a few others, but most are invisible to me (on all threads). This has been discussed before, and I posted it on the New Forum Bugs thread, so I'm hoping Hoopla might be looking at it....

That's beautifully coordinated - nicely done.

Thank you HH. The narrowness of the room is still a huge compromise but the upgrades have proven to be worthwhile, both sonically and visually.

Looks great and the speakers match your rack really well. I especially like the way the left hand speaker looks like it has a spiky mullet

Lol.
Mullets got me thinking about the 80s and what my system looked like back then. Thorens TD160, Mission 774 arm, Ortofon ??, NAD 6340 cassette, QED A270 amp and Rogers LS2A/2's.
I'd love to hear it now just to see if it sounds as sweet as my memory thinks it did......I reckon I'd be pleasantly surprised.
Hi Yanc,
Yes, an IKEA chopping board on supported by three Nordost Pulsar Points. I picked up some oak cone feet at a show a couple of months ago which we will try over the xmas period. I tried painting one white, but the Bamboo leaches oil so needs to be properly sealed.
I notice that Johnell is using an Atacama stand, which I believe is made of Bamboo too. It looks very smart.
ps Sorry to be a "bamboo bore", but it is pretty amazing stuff. I wonder if Naim will ever get around to a bamboo Fraim?!

Sounds to me like we have the makings of a plan. Hope the timing will work out -- planning to be on the Dalmatian coast for part of the summer, but I'm not sure about dates yet. I'm sure we could arrange something...![]()

I'd just like to remind members that this is an English language forum. Posts made in other languages are likely to be removed.

The Atacama Evoque has got bamboo shelves.
I used to use the Ikea butcher blocks on my old Soundstyle rack and they made a difference, giving a richer sound than the glass shelves alone. There's an article online somewhere that extols their virtues.
Hi Johnell,
Yes, I assume you mean the one by Roy Gregory? He does get very excited, but claims that all the components have to sit on little blocks of myrtle wood or Stillpoints, neither of which have I tried.
He rates the Atacama as nearly as good as the Quadraspire, but cheaper. I might have gone that way, but my dealer sells QS and in the end I preferred the look. Yours looks great too, though.

thijazi posted:Thanks for the tip, here goes another attempt at sharing my pics, hope this works:
They aren't showing for me. Make sure that they're not set to "private" on the site where they are hosted. The Naim forum needs to be able to "see" the pictures. It's a bit annoying, but once you get the hang of it, posting pictures is pretty straightforward.
Here goes one more attempt at sharing my pics.. Countless hours late at night spent in front of this system, keeps getting better with every iteration of refinement, lots of fun for sure.

Hope the post works this time.

The Atacama was recommended by Alistair at Signals and I really like the way it sounds. The fact it matches well with the speakers and stands has also gone down well with the other half so a definite win/win.
Thijazi,
I love it!
Hope it sounds as good as it looks!

Those Sonus Faber speakers look gorgeous. Love the painting/print behind the system too.
