System Pics 2016

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Bugger, still can't do it. Check my profile pics for my lovely 'new' SBLs that have replaced my old black ash pair. New grills and paxo too. Sound superb (cheers Paul from Billy Vee).

Lewis, very classy!

Here you go Stu

Cheers James, feeling inept! Bloody IT!
But she is really singing, best ever.

That's what it's all about. Enjoy ![]()
Here's an idea - put the Linn on a wall shelf above the other stuff. That will get it away from the speaker and it will sound even better. They are lovely speakers - not bad for £299!!

I bet they knock the stuffing out of your old pair ![]()
HH, I hate wall shelves. Had the idea before myself ages ago and dismissed it. This is not just a music room, didn't even get to the WAF stage ![]()
The SBLs were actually only £250. Add the new paxo, gasket kit, grills and new K Stageline for the Krystal and thats a major upgrade, very cost effective, very happy.
Chrisu, keeping my old ones as a back-up pair just in case. They still sound good but the new cherry pair really are good.
Stu
I need a better camera! ![]()

I agree about wall shelves. A nicely made wood shelf might look better than some industrial style powder coated steel thing in many domestic settings, but once you start dangling exposed cables under them they all look hideous to me.
Agreed Chrissu,
I was concerned that the Linn would be close to a speaker when I bought it. It does sound good but have to accept that HH is right in an ideal world...
Man, it does sound good though.

My solution was to flog the LP12 and invest in a better streamer!

Blue.Dog,
Nice looking rack. What do you think of the overall and in particular bass output from your D20Rs in your room? Do they hold together played loudish? How far do you sit from the speakers? I plan to demo the same Proacs in my room soon.
JoeRand,
Thanks! The D20Rs are a phenomenal pair of speakers for the price and I'm very pleased with them indeed. Clean, crisp treble and a powerful, tight bass - they are very particular about placement though, otherwise they can become slightly boomy. I sit about 10 feet away and, trust me, they hold together very well at higher volumes! ![]()
Blue.Dog,
I've heard the D20Rs with a SN2 in a dealer's room so exactly what I was expecting you to say
. With any luck my room and my ears will find similar results to yours. I've got a bit more freedom for speaker placement than you, so fingers crossed they'll be a fit. Cheers.

Hi Blue dog,
Are you using the Naim soley as a streamer feeding to the Roksan as your main amp?
Artferg20,
Yes, that's exactly what I'm doing and using the Qute's analogue in for the TT with the pre-out straight into the Roksan's PA section.

What's the purpose of the wooden bases? They are so nice btw

Hi. Thank you. From what I can tell the sound is neutral, clear and wide. They are a little sensitive with the quality you feed them with and they are a little fuzzy with the setup. At least at my home. But when you get it right they dissapear and give you enjoyment for long sessions of listening.

Thanks for the kinds words gents ![]()
Wooden bases purely aesthetic if i'm honest. They may some some isolating properties if you subscribe to that kind of thing, but I just like how it looks with the shoebox units. I got the idea off a photo I saw online with a Nait 1 sitting on a piece of ply. Just looked so damn good ![]()
This is my second system in my bedroom - all I use it for is playing while I am in the shower (through the door on the right) , so I can get in some extra "listening" time (such as it is under the circumstances) so while it isn't much, it fills the bill. Little NAD digital amp does OK all things considered. I keep waiting for the Philips DVD to die, but it simply refuses - only cost $30 when it was new all those years ago!
Would love to plug a Nait 3R in this, but other priorities exist.

And yes I know the cable situation is a nightmare - lol.
DrMark posted:White plinth looks good too - if i ever got back into vinyl, I would definitely get a non-black plinth - really makes the TT pop IMHO. Wood grains or in the case of a modern looking one like this, a color.
What are you waiting for?
i assume the Tiger Paw Stiletto plinth wouldn't float your boat then?
