System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

With 8000+ members, my time will be in the year 10000 (and something) I suppose the point is not everyone can wait that long! Those with private health insurance and good teeth go to the back of the queue.

Which is a rather puerile rule - if you have doubts about the content drop it in Google translate - Sergei and I were exchanging pleasantries and it is not often I get to practice my sub-kindergarten level (an overly generous assessment) Russian language skills:
I asked him where in Russia he is, since I am sometimes in Moscow. He responded he is far from Moscow. I replied that Russia is very big so that is easy to do, and wished him Happy Christmas - pretty dicey stuff...
Since they are "likely" to be removed, what would cause them not to be removed? Obviously if we were carrying on at length for many posts (or if I only tried to post in another language) I could see - but that exchange was very brief and already over as rendered.

God forbid someone else should have a turn to start the thread
You could have started had you wished. I have no official capacity to start it but have done so for the past five years or so and nobody has complained previously.
I like to think I make a positive contribution to the Forum. I note that you joined in October and that the post above is your very first. Perhaps if you contribute worthwhile posts to assist other members and join in the debate, others would be clamouring to ask you to start the thread.
In the meantime perhaps you'd like to post a picture of your system: after all, that's what the thread is for.

Which is a rather puerile rule -
I think it's a good rule, moderators (and every other person who might be quizzical) do not need to waste their individual / collective time translating. Rather, it can be done prior to writing in the forum, once by one individual. This is a multi-language hosehold by the way (including Russian!)

Good point. Much more efficient use of time and effort.
Dr Mark, you may not like it but it's a rule that's there for a rather serious purpose. I could be argued that Naim have a duty of care here to ensure that there is no abusive behaviour taking place here. The only way we can ensure that the forum is understood by as many members as possible and that it is properly understood and moderated by Naim staff is to have the rule in place. Relying on online translation services, which is time consuming and the translation is not always very accurate, or overlooks important nuance, is not a viable option. The rule ensures the maximum transparency on the forum.
So I don't think it's a case of the rule being puerile at all.
I've always made a point of greeting non-english speaking forum'ites in their language if I know them more than just a forum poster. What's wrong with Salut, comment allez-vous? Ciao, come stai? ......... & then on with the post in English?

Who cares who starts the thread? Do we get gold stars now if we do? It's a good thread and I'm glad Nigel has started it.

That's a great looking set up and room, congrats
Sorry Richard - I know you have a tough job in moderating the forum, but as you said they are "likely" to be removed, so I wonder under what circumstances they wouldn't be. You have seen me here for many years now and know that I don't routinely post in any language than English. I have mediocre Spanish, weak Italian, and positively infantile Russian language skills, so I just was trying to have a little fun, since I never get to practice. (I work with a guy from rural South Carolina; he struggles with English.)
I agree about abusive behavior (which ironically appears to be being flirted with in English on this thread at this very moment & not as pertains to me, mind you) but I also think a little judgment could have been applied. Translating even one of the 3 posts between myself and Sergei would have made obvious that no abuse was taking place; and I think your admonition against foreign language posting could have then been placed without deleting the posts.
Mi dispiace. (I'm sorry.)

Nothing wrong with a non-English word of greeting. You'll note that such words don't get moderated. And of course there are non-English words used in the English language all the time. These are not moderated either. However, entire sentences and paragraphs will, more often than not, be subject to moderation.

Moderated post: I have sorted out the pics for you. I think the problem is that the hosting site is rather slow.
Real dedication. Would give anything for a listen,
That's Ok Mark. I do try to use discretion and not just operate as a blunt instrument. However, some days can be trying, and I am human. But I thank you for your post.

Mike,
I know starting a conversation with a little salutation is a friendly way of starting a conversation but having a whole chat is anther. Yes, it can be seen as perceived as pure rudeness when others are not invited in.
I am sure Dr Mark is not malicious in any way, due to his fondness of different cultures and languages, he just grabs the opportunity of practising his language skills whenever he has the chance.
There are a few members here from far afield who communicate with their countrymen in English while not being their mother tongue.
There is always email exchange for private conversation and no contraventions of any unspoken forum rules.
Thijazi, great room!
Respect - the main rule of a forum. All is good, I not in insult …

Wow!
Just heard your System a couple of weeks ago. Just posted a couple of days ago, First time hearing the Statement.
David Machael Audio
555PS x 2 / NDS / S1 Pre / S1 Mono Blocks
Full Loom / Powerlines / Vivid GTA 3
Wow! Just left Naim Siminar ( 12/11/15 ) expecting to hear Naim 500 series for the first time. To my surprise, David Michael Audio
( Royal Oak, MI, USA ) had the above System in tack!
Well, we know what you'll be doing Christmas!
Kick but System!
what exactly is a Full loom?
A particular brand/model of cable used in all the places in a system where it can be used.
Got it... You learn something new everyday with Naim...
Yeah. And you can spend something every week if not careful!
So very true! As I recently discovered after I tested the Super Lumina speaker cables... Had them on a trial for a week and couldn't bring myself to hand them back..

Gorgeous system and room. I also love the print.
Thanks! The print was the cheapest element in this picture ;-)
