System Pics 2016

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

I'm sure you know this, but if you put a rolled up crepe bandage in the bass port it clears up the sound no end, and removes the slight bloom to the bass. I got this suggestion from Naim's very own Jason Gould.

I ve got a mate with a Pure radio set up with 2 speakers and C.D player in his kitchen and like you prefer the richer sound of the Tivoli.I  have a  Sony Dream machine in my Kitchen. Its a small flat top radio and lacks the Tivoli bass but for speech and built in alarm clock and presets I really like it and its been used for twenty odd years.

Agreed,  I used a plug of BAF wadding.  But you probably need to do that because its tucked away in the corner of the cabinet (sideboard) & is getting reinforcement from the side(s), back wall & above.      I had mine tucked away in a corner before my mega stripped to the bare bricks kitchen refit;    now it's out in the open with just the shelf & back wall & doesn't need the port plug anymore.

We've always used the bandage, even when it was out in the open. Putting it where it is now doesn't seem to make much difference actually, and it still sounds as lovely as ever. It's just a shame that because it's FM we can't sync it with the Qb in the kitchen.

+1 for the Tivoli 1. A sort of active speaker with a built in tuner.

Is that a Tivoli Model 1 on your dresser ?

About 20 years ago a brought my parents one for their Kitchen which is still in service. There nearly 90 now and they tend to listen at 4 oclock as there getting hard of hearing.

Best wishes with your recovery

As well as the wonderful Tivoli, the picture shows the rest of the IT gubbins that runs the system. Down to the right is the Qnap, and just behind it is switch and a hole through the wall to the sitting room, all wired with AQ Ethernet. And on the dresser is the AirPort Extreme, which has made everything work so much better. And if we ever want to know what music should sound like, there's the 1960s Broadwood English piano, so sort of one extreme to the other.

Thanks for a nice description HH.

Lovely mixture of Technology and Ironic the Piano was there way before everything on the dresser and probably sounds amazing.

The hey day of hifi  - when naim made speakers !!!!!

as Amy Mann says "everything's different now"

If DBL's and ARO's were still around, I'd buy them again, just to have spares !

Mario.

Wonderful setup Mario. Looks like we've at least three speakers in common! (any nSats tucked away somewhere?). I suspect my DBLs will outlive me, the way things are going.

I thought that while the sun was shining I'd try to get a better picture of my setup, as my pictures are usually taken at night. It's also always good to see some more Naim speakers; again, like the DBLs, from the good old days.

Them's proper speakers right there Nigel. I had the pleasure of owning a pair for a few years -

And I bet they sounded a jolly sight better on the end of your boxes than mine! Isn't it great though that they are happy with a 272/250 as well as active 552/500s. Brilliant speakers.

They sound surprisingly good on a Nait2, given a small room.

Those Sopras look lovely, the black finish must be the best.

HH,  just been admiring the DBL's and SBL's in the previous pictures , I'm a little intrigued that they are comfortable with both 272/250 and 552/500.

can't go wrong with neutral black, my Sopra No2's were also black, the closet was a small storage closet which I don't use and I'm very limited to what I want to do with my system since I'm currently renting this place or else I have a Fraim but I got plenty of time ahead of me to do that once I decide on where I'm gonna live
