System Pics 2016
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015
It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.
Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Got yourself some Audioquest Vodka ethernet cable? What do you think of it?
Well, it's very thick and the metal plug is massive, so I had to get my drill out and make the hole through the wall a bit bigger. Even with only one functioning ear I can tell the difference - it's more natural and engaging, and more lively than the Cinnamon. I'm assuming it will sound even better as it settles and in particular if, and hopefully when, my deaf ear starts working again. I only have the one, from the switch to the streamer. I'll see how it goes before thinking about the one from the nas to the switch, which at least won't require any drilling....
I have Vodka from switch to UnitiServe and from switch to NDS with Cinnamon elsewhere. Vodka must be contributing something positive to your system if you can hear the difference with your hearing currently affected. I hope you get the hearing in your affected ear back soon.
Sorry for the diversion from System Pics.

Richard,
Safe to assume you were referring to the stack? Or maybe both subjects?
I'm wondering, when that stack is loaded, what will be the point load between the Fraim Chips and the wood flooring?
...and more to the point, will that load produce an indentation of the Chip into the wood?
I guess the answer will become apparent next year when Tonym has the stack de-mounted for cleaning etc.
You're a braver man than me, Tonym ![]()
'Tis a spoof of course RJ. When I frst posted this photo (featuring the noble Andy from Signals), I went on to suggest the plan was to couple the Fraim to the ceiling. This produced lots of dire warnings from the large number of forumites taken in. It was good fun!
Tony,
Did you try hanging 4 steel wires from the ceiling beam down to carry the bottom level of that Fraim stack?
It would provide stunning isolation from HF vibration.
It would also isolate the whole stack from the floor borne LF vibration that your DBLs generate.
Just sayin' ...
swing.
All good, practical suggestions there chaps.
JWM, who sadly seldom posts on here nowadays, realised I'd have difficulty loading CDs into my, then, 555 player, and came up with the useful suggestion of burning a special hole in each CD and then making up a pole with a pointy bit on the end to fit the hole. We considered this a very good idea, although it did appear to have a bit of a downside.

Are you kidding? ![]()
Ah yeah, the guy with the goatee?

Ken, do you have a nice little NAP110 (or similar) standing in..?
Ken, what are those white thingy hanging on the wall with the Burndy? Good idea to secure cables from falling off...

unfortunately not, Richard. My office is dead silent.
Will i survive this ordeal?
Enjoy...?
Ken
Surely your dealer can lend you a poweramp? You've spent enough with them...
After another of my inordinately long searches, I may just have found the next step change improvement for the system.
Vinyl now sounds deliciously, delightfully, emotionally captivating. This is probably a good thing. More to follow.

Best regards, FT
Foot- Moon 610 then ..?
ATB,
Mark
Hi Mark, very close.
A Sim Audio Moon 310LP/320S. The Moon 610 is supposed to be even better but I didn't want a mains transformer right in the middle of the Brain stack. The 320S is the external power supply at the top of the Brawn stack, next to the motor controller for the turntable.
It has been quite a journey, trying to find a phono stage that is a step change better than the P75 (when matched with a DV cartridge). By this I mean more revealing and dynamic than the P75, while retaining that all important sense of musicality, coherence and natural balance.
There are many expensive phono stages that are more transparent or revealing than the P75. However, finding one that still makes music sound naturally balanced, coherent, lifelike and emotionally engaging has proven to be a far greater challenge.
It's lovely now though...
Best regards, FT
Yes, i have heard good things about the Moon phono's- congrats! The external power supplies are supposed to make a considerable difference on the overall presentation. Sounds familiar
!
Enjoy it! Great looking TT btw..

Mark
N272 - NAP200 in the bag

Wonderful, another 272 owner. One thing - set the display to turn off after 30 seconds or whatever. If you leave the clock on it will eventually damage the display.
