System Pics 2016

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Hi Alba,

Thank you for your comment,

For the record,i have now a DVD on trial instead. I watched a movie yesterday night and everthing was fine. i tried a couple of cd early this morning and ironically the copy protected one was played faultlessy while with the other one,  it struggled to read the TOC and while it was playing, despite it was not skipping, had a sort of black holes or fraction of seconds without sound at all.

Regards

Roberto

Massimo highly recommends the DVD5...

Hi Adam,

I' ll try to elaborate

First of all i have no patience with electronic gadgets  and this is in part one of them

2 It has not  a lot of sense and convenience if used only with the remot and i hate tablets at all.

3 The  musical genres assignement has a mind a categorization of his own, i tried to get rid of some of them

(Children Music, Christmas,  Gay ? ) and add other genres like i' m used with Discogs but i didn't succede

4 For the above when you browse the music library for Arstist order, you have for example Current 93 side by side with  Cassandra Wilson (the latter was ripped by its previous custodian) a little annoying don't you ?

5 If i rip a substantial number of albums of the same artist, the albums are catalogued in alpabetical order and not chronologiacally

6 Of a certain number of albums i ripped it didn't reproduce the album sleeve.

7 If i start to play a record i can only see the total number of tracks but not all the tracks title at once, so of a given record if i want to play a specific track and don't remember exactly which one i want, i have to scroll the entire album.

8 I tried to configure it in Playing cd mode but without success after a few seconds reading the TOC, it spitted the cd out. Ok, probably a glitch to sort out.

I don't want comment about sound quality but at this price level doesn't seem extraordinary

Regards

Roberto

Welcome to Metadata Madness!

I rip stuff with dBPoweramp which generally picks up good data on artist, album and tracks but occasionally I have to edit it.

Most new music I download (in HiRes or CD quality) but occasionally (like I just have for a Sophie Solomon album)) I have to fix broken metadata.

I find that an iPhone driving my Superuniti (from a Melco music library and, before that, a NAS) is quite easy.

I'm a lover of technology but how streaming can be made simple and trouble free for others I don't know. It is much easier with iTunes/iPhone and Amazon so somehow the high resolution music and player industry needs to catch up.

Christophe: is that a Scoutmaster II? Nice turntable. I've had a Scout II before, and now a Classic 1 (with Nordost wiring). What card are you running? I use a Koetsu Black...

edit: should have checked your profile first ;-).

Nac 42-5  & 140 just after cold start with DVD5 and S400

Boy, these old little things  really sing beautifully !

The 140 also shows  enough grunt for the 400. Apparently is not second to XS on this . Bearing in mind that this was only a quick trial, cable dressing and positioning was  far from ideal and i didn't even connected the HI-Cap, this is a really good start.

P.s  Now i'm on the way to LASA service centre to give 'em   a full service.

Ah, I see another member of the Allae club. I have now been about a year on my Allaes and continue to love them. I trust you are enjoying yours as well.

Love my Allaes as well, they're on the end of my Superuniti, maybe we should start an Allae appreciation thread ?

I absolutely love it. It's midrange is so sweet, and it's a great tracker too (I'm not using any anti-skating).

Hi Richard,

Yes it is, it belonged to my uncle, he bought it in 1983 and was part of a Technics system. I refurbished it 3 years ago but never used since then.

I have this dvd5 from a week now. It's very fine like dvd player, less so for audio cd (btw seeing the Naim green logo on screen is soo cool ! )

Last Monday i also introduced a new 24" led  Toshiba tv set and and carried away 42.5/HC/140  for full service.

Is there anything you have not seen Richard?
