System Pics 2016

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 15 December 2015

It's that time of year again, so welcome to System Pics 2016. Let's hope it's a happy and healthy year for everyone.

Here's are a couple of pictures of my stuff to get us started: with the exception of a Powerline everything is changed since this time last year, even the carpet and paintwork.

Dr Mark, it takes me back.  I guess it was around '81 or '82 and I had the Technics brochure and the RS-M250 looked pretty cool.  In the end I bought an RS-M228X and briefly went down the dbx cul de sac until the real cassette revelation came with a day spent with a friend's Nak LX-3.  And so followed a lot of Summer fruit picking and eventually I had the funds for a new Nakamichi - first a silver BX-1, then a black BX-2, then an RX-202.  A steep learning curve.

Christophe: is that a Scoutmaster II? Nice turntable. I've had a Scout II before, and now a Classic 1 (with Nordost wiring). What card are you running? I use a Koetsu Black...

edit: should have checked your profile first ;-).

yes, it is a scoutmaster II; and the koetsu black is so good!!!! the little wooden box near the superline is the box of the koetsu; what are your experiences of this cart?

I absolutely love it. It's midrange is so sweet, and it's a great tracker too (I'm not using any anti-skating).

and this sweet little box...

Roberto, is that a Technics RS-M250 I spy hiding behind the DVD5??

Hi Richard,

Yes it is, it belonged to my uncle, he bought it in 1983 and was part of a Technics system. I refurbished it 3 years ago but never used since then.

I have this dvd5 from a week now. It's very fine like dvd player, less so for audio cd (btw seeing the Naim green logo on screen is soo cool ! )

Last Monday i also introduced a new 24" led  Toshiba tv set and and carried away 42.5/HC/140  for full service.

Regards

Roberto

Recently changed our room around with new furniture.

Final part of the jigsaw was changing the speakers from Cherry to Oak, managed to move from Kudos C20's to S20's in the process.

I have to do without the box, since I bought mine (hardly) used ;-).

Two updates: apart from a HiCapDR looking for a proper placement (for the curious: resting on two slightly different pairs of Audio Replas, pure quartz anti-resonant feet – a remnant from my previous audiophile life), there's a NAP250.2, instead of the NAP200DR. My first NAP250!

How do you find the 250.2 compared to 200DR?...I preferred the straight 200 to the 250.2 in the long run.

Graeme, I try to avoid comparisons so when I decided for the 250.2 I simply put it in place and the 200DR went into its box. I am aware that the 250.2 has fewer fans here than could be expected for a unit being built since 40 years – it's been called 'bloated', some do not find it fast, agile enough; but my first impression was simply that a better amp had replaced a lesser one. Voices are more structured, even more expressive; they articulate more richly (we're talking of shades of course), and instruments are better placed in space and differentiated in timbres. That is, what I expected from an amp costing almost twice. The 200DR is great – agile, luminous, very competent: I'd be tempted to keep it, but I also avoid accumulating and duplicating; so it will go. I have used the 250.2 for 2 days – in my standards, not a short time...  – and I am happy with my choice. Will it last? Time will tell...

Kid free zone!..?

Posted on: 05 November 2016 by Massimo Bertola

Yes. Whether it's a good thing or not, I'm unable to tell...

A kid's free zone is always a good thing (I have two of them ).

Posted on: 06 November 2016 by Massimo Bertola

Two kids or two zones..?

Posted on: 06 November 2016 by Pcd
Or both ??
Posted on: 06 November 2016 by Jumping Jack

Two kids (6 and almost 4).

My trusty PMC's are back in place for now. Some recently purchased James Taylor and a little glass of something warming is just the ticket for this cold Sunday afternoon.

Posted on: 06 November 2016 by james n

Hourglass is a superb album, very well produced too.

Not so taken with Before This World yet.
